October Intro: I Think We Should Run

Nuidan: Checking that the Coast is Clear
This time around, newest arrivals to the archipelago of LifeAftr will open their eyes to the skies overlooking the relatively recent island of Nuidan. Namely, they'll be waking in the northern quadrant of said island, the region perpetually locked in the season of spring. This means rich fields of gold and green and buff-colored grass and skies swollen with unshed rainclouds. The scent of turned soil and petrichor mingles with the faint, earthy scent of manure.
It's not an unpleasant way to wake. There are doubtless worse places to rouse yourself. But the cloud of dust clotting up the horizon soon suggests that there might be a bit more to the circumstances of your arrival than some nice weather.
And, unfortunately, that's exactly the case. There's a herd of something charging directly for you, and nothing short of a natural disaster is going to sway them from their course.

Quadrupedal, herbivorous, and scaly, aptonoths resemble dinosaurs in appearance more than they do so in their generally placid nature. They are far more akin to cows in temperament, even if their skin is a good deal more leathery. Even the broad spikes at the ends of their tail or the heavy horns atop their heads aren't terribly dangerous unless the entire herd feels threatened. While aptonoths are typically easily tamed, in this case they are far from amenable to conceding to anyone's interference.
It's probably best to try and get out of their way. Fast.
Ensō: 'Cause They're Already Ghosts
Things are quieter on LifeAftr's mainland. They might seem a little...eerily so, in fact. Today officially marks the day that the Storyteller makes their departure, and seeks out new islands for you intrepid explorers to uncover. The difference that their absence creates is small, at first, and most prominently felt on Ensō itself.
The temple is the most obvious thing. It simply looks...defeated and empty, as hollow and unoccupied as it currently is. That aura of proud mystery is absent, though the Chamber of Glyphs at least remains as it was. But anyone who comes looking for the Storyteller themself at this time will find no one waiting for them. No flower-touched animal, no old, dusty tome. You're currently on your own.
Or...maybe not? The Storyteller was courteous enough to issue a warning last month about the nature of the dream-island of Mu. The effects of that island will start to make themselves evident in small, simple ways: namely, in the way you're going to start seeing things.

The source of these odd quirks in the fabric of reality is easily explained by the presence of clockroaches, one of Mu's wily dream-creatures. You'd be hard-pressed to catch a glimpse of any of them directly; they specialize in the ethereal and the ephemeral, and seldom reveal themselves to anyone if they can help it. But you might, if you're very attentive or very lucky, see some indistinct, silver-misted blur disappearing behind the trunk of a tree in a blink-swift ghost of motion.
But they are, in essence, harmless. At least...for the moment.
As of October 4th, the Storyteller will be unavailable for both IC Contact threads and Item Requests. If you need anything vital backdated, just let us know!
All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!
As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.
Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

This was more Fjord's area.
Better to just go with the natural flow that was Yasha and work that out first. Were they alone here, or were there other confused Neins? People in general? Food, shelter and all those important things? ]
Alright. Where did you end up? Close to here?
no subject
(She stands up on the cliff and squints against the sun, holding a hand up to her eyes to check.)
I just woke up, and... yeah. (Realistically she's only been awake for something like fifteen minutes; it feels like hours. A lot has happened.) I don't remember how I got here.
no subject
Neither do I. I had a weird dream, though? Some kind of rabbit was talking to me about stories.
[ Which sounds crazy, but crazy seems like the new normal even before he woke up here. ]
no subject
Jester would like to sketch this, she thinks, absentmindedly.)
I did too... (She sounds a little distant, but she's listening.) I dreamed about... Caleb. And cows, we... had to herd them.
(Then she blinks, and looks at Molly, bewildered.) It felt real.
no subject
You know, herding cows with Caleb sounds like it makes more sense than the talking rabbit. I almost envy you.
[ There's a bit of a shrug at that. ]
...but the rabbit kind of felt real, too. I wonder if that's part of this place.
oh my god that icon
(She didn't really give it that much thought. It didn't seem so strange after the dream about the herds. Perhaps the dream was supposed to be soothing like that, to keep her from questioning it, because now that Molly is talking about it of course it's odd that a rabbit would have spoken to her from across a campfire.
She sighs, and gives his hand a little squeeze in return.)
Nothing seems to make sense right now, you know? What are we supposed to do now?
(Where should they go?)
I love it so much
[ Nothing really did make much sense, but then again, why would it? Whatever this place was, it was not normal. They wouldn't be together if it was, so fuck the weirdness.
Molly's grateful. ]
I don't know. Find a place to stay? Figure things out.
U HAVE SO MANY GOOD ONES... mollys a little shit, i love him
Huh. Now that Yasha thinks about it: she has one too, that she didn't really notice until just now. She's used to having bags with her, after all. It just didn't register.
She swings the pack off of her shoulder. It has her name stitched on the front; she points this out to Molly.)
you too I'm loving the tea one
When Yasha looks at her pack it makes him reach for his own, studying the name on it again. Mollymauk. ]
They know our names. Whoever 'they' are.
[ That was eerie, honestly. He's grateful that it's the right name, but it opens up so many questions. Was this the rabbit's doing?
Then he finally opens the bag to see what was inside. ]
...a saw?
[ At least that was a tool?
The tinderbox was great, too, when they had no wizard around. The unknown canister he sets to the side for a moment, and then pulls up a jug of something that smelled very odd. Kind of like alcohol, but not at the same time.
Last was a weird stone. ]
No food, unfortunately. Or water.
its for sipping :)
Hmm. There's a sewing kit, but nothing to sew. There's a knife, holstered in a worn leather case.)
... Here. (There's a package of food nestled at the very bottom: salted jerky. She rips the plastic open with her teeth, and then passes it to Molly. She has a strange, smooth stone and a little jug of something too, both look identical to his. Lastly, she has something large and flat... kinda looks like a seed?
Yasha sighs, looking at it.) Nothing useful.
get that tea babe
'Rubbing alcohol'. I have no idea what that is, but I'm not drinking it.
[ The second one is labeled 'baking soda', and Molly isn't sure what that is, either - but it was obviously for baking? Who the fuck knows in this place, nothing made sense. ]
Well, my dear, it looks like we're seriously roughing it. Do you want to be the little spoon this time?
its been GOT
Okay, (she says with her mouth full.)
Maybe we should find a place in the fields to stop. (They can make a fire if they find wood... and the grass will be soft.)
atta girl
Do you think it's safe? Hopefully these stampedes are not common.
[ He had been squished once by the hill giant during their tournament, he doesn't want to add trampled to that.
...whatever that meant for his situation right now. He's so glad she's not pushing it. His lovely, wonderful Yasha. Together, they could do anything.
Well, at least camp out together. ]
Should we look around for others? Civilization?
no subject
We should look for higher ground.
(Like the cliff from before, but softer. She swings her pack back onto her shoulder and takes Molly's hand. She's not much of a natural hand-holder but a small, insistent part of her wants to make sure he's there at all times, lest he slip away from her again.)
... Which way first?
no subject
It was looking like it was leading higher, at least. ]
That way? Maybe we can find some water, too.
no subject
(She's good for whatever, it's not as if this is going to be the first time they've had to really rough it out in the wilds. And it's always nice to have time to explore after getting chased by a literal stampede, too.)
no subject
At least they were together. ]
