[Sometimes Tim is behind the counter. Sometimes he's doing stuff like fixing the place's supply of stools with a couple well-placed nails, or whittling some more cutlery.]

[He also still has eleven flare guns if anyone here wants one. There's a basket full of them by the counter. Just ask the guy there. He'll probably tell you that you can have one, provided you get a demo on how to shoot it and what the differently-colored flares mean.]

(Legion doesn't need to eat, but sometimes they like to visit anyway.

Legion is wary of unfamiliar organics, but the people of this island have been nice enough that they're willing to take risks.

Thus, when they see a strange man working on domething, they decide to approach.)

[He hasn't really met Legion directly, though he's seen them...around, from time to time. Figured they're some kind of robotic species, and left it at that. He's past the point of being surprised by this kind of stuff anymore. He glances at them, sidelong, and shrugs.]

You know how to fix a chair?

Though previously our experience with construction was limited, this has changed in the months since our arrival.

(They have not yet worked on a chair specifically, but...)

[Not, strictly speaking, true - he had some construction experience before an investigative road-trip hijacked his life - but he definitely wasn't the sort of person to scrape together buildings from scratch. Not until he had to be.]

[He picks up the leg of the chair that's been detached from the rest of it, eyeing the splintered ends where it was snapped off.]

I think someone threw this one, or something.

This destruction is unnecessary.

Unnecessary, sure. Doesn't stop most people.

[It's mostly dismissive. People dick around and property damage is the most frequent consequence of that. He kinda expected that setting this place up.]

[They're not half bad at fixing things, either, provided they were the ones to break them in the first place.]

People do a lot of stupid shit when they're drunk.

[Tim, unfortunately, thinks that he understands it a little too well. Self-destructive spirals are one of his specialties. He just tends to be a little more isolated in his.]

Honestly, I'm not sure anyone understands it. It's just something people are real good at. [He scrapes his box of nails closer and starts digging through it.]

Might just need to make a new leg. Easier than trying to fix this one.

[Tim grunts, lets the old leg clatter to the ground, and gets wearily to his feet.]

I've got some lumber in storage. Do you...I mean, if you want to help, I guess you can.

[ ann was pretty curious about The Denny, because a restaurant on a deserted island? wow. she's impressed. in a good way, of course. she walks in and sees someone working behind the counter, fixing up some of the stools.

she wonders if he's the one who made the place. if he is, well, ann would like to give him her compliments. she walks over to him with a smile. ]

["Made" is a bit of a stretch, in Tim's mind. The skeleton of an old mess hall was there to begin with; he just...built on top of it.]

[Tim glances up. His gaze is brief and assessing. Doesn't recognize her, but...she might be new.]

You know how to fix a chair?

Not really, [ ann, please. she sets her hands on her hips, and her smile widens. ] but I can learn? Just tell me what to do and I'm on it!

[ she's Determined! ]

[Hey, fair enough. Tim flips open the box of nails he's set on the ground and rummages through it, indicating the busted chair leg with an inclination of his chin. It looks pretty well splintered.]

This one's got a broken leg. I was gonna see if I could fix the leg, but I'll probably have to replace it instead. You showed up here with a pack of stuff, right?

[ great! ann's really glad he's letting her help. she puts her bag down on the ground next to her and pulls out her box of nails. she's been carrying it around for so long; now she finally gets to put them to use. ]

I have extra nails if we need them. I'm not really sure if anything else I have will be useful or not, but if you wanna take a look, be my guest!

[ she opens up her bag, in case tim wants to see what else she has! ]

[Nails, knife...not a wood saw, which would've been ideal, but he can make it work. He extricates his multi-tool from his pocket to unfold the more serrated blade he has on hand.]

Sometimes people show up with saws, but this works fine if you need it. I was gonna cut away the broken leg and replace it with a new one.

[If that's...something she's interested in trying?? Turns out Tim has no idea how to teach this kind of thing when he's pretty much self-taught.]

[ to be fair, she's used a sword before, so she's kinda used to handling sharp objects? she looks at the blade and nods. ]

I'm willing to give it a try. Can't promise I'll make a clean cut, but I'll do my best!

[ and before she forgets: ] I'm Ann, by the way. I don't think we've met?

[Tim sees zero problems with handing people sharp objects. He has, paradoxically, a larger problem with sharp objects being handed to him. So he merely nods and passes it over.]

Tim. I...keep this place together, I guess you could say.

[ she takes the knife, looking it over. she knows how to hold it, at least, and she moves the chair and points to the leg in question. ]

This one, right? [ then: ] Nice to meet you, Tim. It's pretty cool in here, and it kind of reminds me of home. It's nice.

[He nods with a hum of assent. The chair leg must have gotten bruised or thrown or something, because it's at a peculiar angle, splinters sticking roughly out from the point of impact.]

I can't take all the credit. Had a lotta help.

[ ann gets to work on cutting off that chair leg, but she's having some trouble. it's not cutting as easily as she would have liked it to--that, plus she's going at a weird angle despite having a good grip on the knife--so the cut comes out kind of rugged. she flushes in embarrassment. ]

So...that could've gone a lot better...
