Reseed the Meadow So the Cows Don't Starve
As of September 10th, the mana pools on Ensō and its islets will now allow for travel to the new island of Nuidan.

Travelers will arrive on a mana pool situated on the E5 square. The temple is situated in an oasis-like backdrop of amber-colored sands circled with overhanging palm trees. From the island's center, the four corners of the island and its fixed seasonal shifts are more than obvious: to the north, the rainfall-soaked meadows of spring; to the east, the thick clusters of the trees of autumn; to the south, the snow-capped mountains of winter; and to the west, the warm summer sands and pleasant heat.

And inside the temple? The avatar of the island Nuidan is waiting.

Welcome to the new island of Nuidan! Forever? I'm not sure how you measure time. That sounds like a distracting sort of chore when there's work to be done. "Forever" will do. This island is my home, and my reach extends as far as it does.

[They rattle off each item like a bullet point list, and then stops to scent at the air before picking up their pace to a swift trot.]

For a time, for a time. "Forever" - a good word! Cuts to the chase. Gets to the point. Longer than I care to think, so "forever" will do.

['Forever' kind of makes sense. It's hard to measure time when you're alone. But he follows, trying to keep pace.]

Okay, so, quite long, then. Do you-- are you typically alone? Do you visit other places, or, I know the Storyteller mentioned reaching out to you?

Gods stay where they are, for the most part. Not many of us get out much these days. Have to keep our homes intact, you know.

[There's a...bit of a strong smell wafting along the breeze, the closer they get to their destination. This turns out to be one of the wells set in the earth. More specifically, the massive pile of droppings that's ended up beside it. Harv talks with the brisk tone of disapproval, as though admonishing a pack of unruly children.]

Oh, foolish creatures. If the water gets contaminated, where will they be, I ask? Just as doomed as the crops! Would you mind?

[Is the purpose of that shovel becoming a bit clearer, sir?]

[He thinks he knows what's coming before they even get there, but he's silently praying to himself he's wrong. Unfortunately, his instincts are rarely wrong, and he will now suffer for them. But it's rude to disrespect a god, especially one whom he just met and said he would help.

At least this isn't his very good suit.]

I, uhm... of course.

[internalscreaming.mp4. He's gonna do it, though. Maybe he should dig a hole first? That seems like a good idea.]

So are you tied to your homes, then? Attached to a domain that you can't leave?

[Harv has already set about digging a hole. For what reason? We might never know. Kicking back clods of dirt with fierce and fearless efficiency, they prattle on as requested:]

The water makes it difficult, I'll tell you that. All that surface area separating Nuidan from the rest, and the rest from the rest of the rest! Once a time when we weren't all strewn about and scattered to the winds like we are, let me just say.

But if I were to just up and go, where would I go to, I ask you? I've barely been keeping this place going all by myself. Imagine how it would all just fall apart without even that much going for it.

[I mean, it saves him the trouble. At least they're... working together? Probably. Maybe. He'll hold until Harv is out of the way, because throwing shit on a god is a bad, bad first impression.]

Well, that's understandable-- I wouldn't encourage you to leave your duties, of course. If you're here by yourself running an entire, uhm, area, must be taxing. My Lady at least has me as an enforcer of her rules.

[But there is something they said in there that's very curious--]

Though, I must ask-- you say these weren't islands, once? What happened?

There's an awful lot of water, now, wouldn't you say? Can't you draw your own conclusions?

[To be fair, Harv probably wouldn't care one way or the other, if they get some manure thrown on them. They're definitely the sort of god who doesn't mind getting their hands dirty! Paws. Dirty.]

[Listen, most people aren't into that. Or if they are, they're not Kravitz, and he kind of assumes most people aren't so into that.]

Did it... flood? Did an ocean flood?

[That doesn't sound like it makes sense, even if it does bring about some uncomfortable thoughts for the situation he was in before this one.]

If you knew these others were out there, why haven't you reached out? Or have you been adrift?

As I've said, I've been here. Here, trying to deal with my own problems! The world changes an awful lot when you're busy with your own problems.

Have you ever tried screaming out over a great marine distance? Voice doesn't carry terribly far, now, does it?

[He feels the little twinge of embarrassment, shifting the weight between his feet. It feels like a very familiar admonishment- for all of how he knows nothing, this is a much more comfortable interaction.]

Well, I was thinking more-- more like magic. I didn't realize when the Storyteller made contact that they literally came to see you.

[He realizes he's slipping into what might sound like admonishment, and hastily adds--]

I mean, not that that's a problem, I just. Didn't understand. My apologies.

It's not as if we all have a direct line into each other's heads! Imagine that. Imagine having a neighbor who, instead of stopping by to ask if you're in, simply barges into your head and decides that you ought to be!

[Harv stops digging, flicking a clod of mud from a dirt-stained paw, to snuffle at the absurdity of it.]

What a nightmare.

[Hmmmm okay let's keep that mental note. Keep telepathy to himself. Got it.]

I, uh. Noted.

[He figures he should probably help with the digging, starting to work on organizing the tossed dirt so it doesn't collapse back into the hole instantly.]

I guess I imagined you had a more magical means to send messages, but. Perhaps something can be set up for long-distance communication? So we can contact you or you may contact us for assistance in the future.

I'm not known to be a god who sends messages. Frittering the day away in idle conversation? What an atrocious waste of time!

Hmm. Hmm. I don't have any direct lines to my temple. Those magic stones of yours - if one could be lent to me, I could use it accordingly. But if that's off the table, then I'm afraid I can't help you.

I'm sure something can be arranged. If the Storyteller outfits us with them, as well as new arrivals, I doubt they would be opposed to one more for a friend.

[Assuming they are friends. Or well, Kravitz would assume they're at least friendly to let a ton of strangers just wander over.]

Well, you'd have to ask them. I'm not the one who hands out those fetching little stones! You can come back here and ask me yourself if you end up needing me so badly until then. It's a brisk walk, very good for the lungs!

Right, I-- of course.

[At least this is something he can do, a way to thank them aside from doing the work he asks. Of course, that reminds him there's dirty work to be done, and he sighs as he tries to steel himself for this. Maybe he can slide his way into more finessed work next time.]

I'll let you know what I can do.

You're doing quite a lot already. [They sound very approving, and they step back, their hole now very well-dug.]

Go ahead and shovel it in here. Makes for wonderful fertilizer, you see.

[Oh. Oh, well, if it's approving-- maybe it's not so bad, then.]

Right-- right! Of course.

[He'll just wash off later. It is for a god after all.]

Thank you ever so much for your cooperation. You know so very few of you bothered to lend a hand while you were asking all your questions?

Well, I-- forgive us for being wary, but there's been very little friendly contact with other islands since our arrival here. To my understanding, the last time most of us saw other people, we were met with significant hostility. The island after that was entirely empty. We're... a bit devoid of contact, to be frank.

And? I don't see what that has to do with anything! There's no reason you can't work andtalk at the same time. You were just doing it. [Said in a tone of voice that implies: well, if you could do it, couldn't anyone?]

Well, I simply mean they may be-- concerned about going somewhere alone with someone new, under the circumstances? Many aren't terribly respectful of gods either though.

[Gosh, the group of them. How rude.]

Still, very sorry, I'll-- see what I can do to motivate their efforts.

That would be very kind of you. No matter if it succeeds or fails - your own work ethic is the only one you truly have control over, isn't it?

[He nods, maybe a bit hurried.]

[Even if he'll be looking for other, uh... duty next time.]

[Harv manages to look quite pleased at that, which is a curious thing for a sheepdog to convey.]
