He had been pulled away, physically, by Hinata and dragged home. He hadn't been so mad in a long time.

"I hate them!" it was an outburst, barely controlled.

“And you shouldn’t have kept going with that fight.” Hinata snaps, pulling Komaeda into the cottage with a sigh. He knows where this is going. He had thought Komaeda would be better about this after waking up from the program.

Fat chance.

“Either of you. And I know what you are probably going to do. You do it and I will be really angry. Let it go.”

There are certain things that would never change, fundamental aspects of his character would always be there. Facts about his physical condition would also always be there. The combination would always lead to difficulties. Komaeda was no longer a Remnant of Despair, but it didn't mean that his core values or impulses had changed from before. He had not learned anything fundamental from the Neo World Program, the only thing he had walked away with was a closer connection to his class.

"They defiled a public place!" How could Hinata defend that? How was he supposed to just let that go? "They talk like an attempt at a bootleg version of Her!"

"They're not Her!" Hinata clenches his teeth and shuts the door behind them. He notices Lily rise up from her spot by the table but she makes no move to approach.

They both know Komaeda is going to be difficult. "We can get the stone fixed. And you did provoke him just like he was provoking you!" If he'd seen it sooner he'd have grabbed Komaeda a lot faster. He should have predicted this!

But he can't change what happened. "Please. We need to focus on the island. There's something really wrong there. Just like the crystals in the caves!"

"Of course they aren't! Their character is far too worthless to even attempt it," Which was almost more infuriating than a capable replacement of That Woman. A challenge would be acceptable... a worthy rival, a worthy enemy. But no, it was just....

Someone that was a waste.

"Obviously it's a leper colony," was Hinata also not following the obvious clues again? Or was he just trying to distract him....

"I was properly discussing the island, I did not provoke that disgusting attempt at vulgar juvenile evil to do anything."

"No. It's like the-" He stops. His thoughts settle into place as he sits down hard on the floor. Lily climbs into his lap and he runs his hand over her.

"...did I...never tell you about the warding against Storyteller?" Did he? He can't remember. Sometimes his memories of before are foggy. Or it could be he's just so upset and frustrated that he'd forgotten what he said.

"Warding?" No. He had not heard about that. A new irritation was welling inside him, but he didn't let that one take over. "Go on."

"It was at the compound you woke up in. There's a massive door in the back of it. It had sigils on it. I went with a group to find out what was so special about it." He hadn't told him. This isn't going to go well. He keeps going. "We determined with Storyteller's help that Storyteller couldn't get through. The sigils warded the area to keep them out."

He pets Lily. Because now he remembers why he didn't tell Komaeda about it. "...I still didn't know anything back then. I was still trying to deal with the fact you set up your own murder. And the slaughter that took place in that compound."

"Ah... the inconvenience of having been late," how frustrating. This sounded like information worth knowing and he was only hearing about it months later. "I'm listening, what did you find?"

He opens his mouth to say it and his face visibly pales. Hinata looks off to the side, rubbing at his mouth. The horrors bubble up like ink in clear water. He breathes in, squaring his shoulders as he tells himself that it's over.

It's over like the murders and dance of hope and despair in that farce of a courtroom. But there's something surreal about it all. "We were teleported past the door into caves," His struggle had only taken a moment. A pause, but the eyes he fixes on Komaeda are haunted.

"There were crystals everywhere. We split up to take out the sigils inside. I studied them at first...but as we got deeper inside what looked like a crystallized village. We found...crystal golems. They didn't look real at first. I thought I saw something in their depths but I wasn't sure. ...and I wasn't wrong."

His hands clench into fists. "People started getting sick. Crystals breaking up out of their skin."

"A contagious crystal disease... was this the warding?" It sounded concerning but he couldn't quite make the connection yet. What had it meant? Was this crystalized town and golems Storytellers?

"The warding kept Storyteller out. The disease was what was behind the wards. It might have been their own seal to prevent them from seeing something they forgot but...I don't have enough evidence to conclude anything."

And now there is the Umui. "And now there's this. The gods and their people...what made that go wrong? What did they do to them?"

"Do we know the gods did it to the people? What if the people did it to themselves?" Traditionally gods were linked to their people, right? So perhaps the things people did affected them. "We need more information before we can even start making conclusions."
