July Adventure: Where the Weeds are Now Growing Free

NEW ISLAND: UMUI
Who: Everyone!
What: Umui appears, and a new adventure begins
When: July 10th and onward
Where: Umui
Warnings: Tag as you go!

'Cause the Dirt is Up to My Eyes
As of July 10th, the mana pools on Ensō and its islets will now allow for travel to the new island of Umui.

Travelers will arrive on a mana pool situated on the C1 square. The thick crops of flowers spring freely across the lush, grassy landscape, clustered in dense knots. The variety behind these growths seems profoundly limited: it is as though each flower has only sprouted around others of its kind, mingling solely at the edges. A large building looms in the corner of the region, a twisting, unfurling mass of piping and a half-crumbled metallic shine.

Whatever lays inside, or beyond the island's limits, is for you to discover for yourself.

Welcome to the new island of Umui! As the island is now accessible, feel free to begin preparations and explorations in this log, or create new ones of your own! For further information in regards to the island, or plotting, the following links may prove handy:

For Connor ~ 11th July

... Then there were robots, dead robots with flowers growing in them. One of them had Centaurea cyanus growing in their jaw. [Shion is walking beside Connor, filling him in on what he had found on his search with Gladio and Shouto the day before. The new island was very disturbing but fascinating all at the same time and Shion wanted to explore more of it.]

Also not once did we see any animals, not even birds, that's really strange especially with all the flowers, the island has been overtaken with nature but still no birds have landed there. [He might have already said this previously, he's babbling. There's so much information and so much he is trying to work out. The island is strange, parts of it almost remind him of West Town. Except the flowers, there hadn't been any flowers there.]

It's fucking eerie, is what it is. [Connor's been vaguely distracted by the flowers, which he keeps absently picking and weaving together as they walk, but he is listening.] I don't know if this is better or worse than dealing with Bliss.

[The flowers he's been weaving together are all some shade of purple. It can't quite be classified as a flower crown, given that he just keeps adding to it whenever he sees something he likes, but it's sort of crown-shaped in that it's probably supposed to go on someone's head.]

Where are we going again?

I saw what might be some buildings to the east whilst I was exploring yesterday. [It was really eerie this whole island, it wasn't like a dead world, where there was nothing. But somehow seeing such ruin next to all the flowers. It was... different. Disturbing in a different way.]

It reminds me a bit of the world in my dream actually... High technology levels and lots of flowers. [He picks one and hands it to Connor.] Except this is probably how it would look like... instead of the idealised version in my head...

Needs more bees. You can't have flowers without - [Connor hands still, the flower Shion handed him only partially woven into whatever it is he's making.] . . . How are these flowers being pollinated without animals?

[He just sort of accepted that there would be plants, because all of the islands have had plants, but now that he's actually thinking about this, he doesn't know how these flowers exist if there's no discernable animal life and there's nobody to pollinate them by hand.]

[Shion stops stock still, of course. That's what was so weird about this place. He's surprised he hadn't seen it. But how are all these flowers here with nothing to pollinate them. No instects, no animals at all. Some flowers can pollinate with wind but not all of these species. It's impossible.

Another tick for the column that says nothing they are seeing is real. His own flower filled dream world had also not had bees, for obvious reasons. But there should be bees... It makes no sense.]

Do you see how the flowers are. All of one kind together. Regimented. That's not how wild places are, they should all be intermingling. It's as if they have been specifically cultivated. [But by who, or what? There are no people and even if there were people once, it would not stay like this.]
yourattention: (that you are there)

[personal profile] yourattention 2018-07-13 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
Like someone . . . planted them. [He assumes that's what Shion's trying to say - he knows a lot about nature, but Shion's the one who actually studied plants and those are two slightly different things.] I mean, there must have been people here right? There's buildings.

[Connor gestures towards their destination. The buildings are within view now and unmistakably structures. Metal, most likely, since that's what they came to this island for in the first place, but definitely built by someone. Definitely not natural, as it were.]

Planted them and then kept an eye on them. Kept them where they wanted them, stopped them from intermingling. [There must have been people here once, that was true. But since then? No one seemed to live here anymore...]

It doesn't make sense... Perhaps we will discover something inside the buildings. [People were bound to have left something... information behind.]
yourattention: (all those demons that i couldn't let up)

[personal profile] yourattention 2018-07-21 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
But why would you plant shit like this? It's all over the place. [If you were going to plant flowers, this is an incredibly nonsense way to do it in Connor's opinion.] There's no real color scheme and the flowers aren't, like. The same kinds.

[It almost looks like it's wild, save for the fact that the flowers don't intermingle.]
savedbyasong: (goodbyes)

[personal profile] savedbyasong 2018-07-22 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly, it makes no sense. There's no pattern to it, no real organisation. And also... there were flowers growing in the dead robots. We found dead automatons with flowers growing inside them, out of their mouths. They weren't planted... But... Also no pollination.

[He reaches round into his rucksack to grab his notebook and a pencil. He needs to write all of this down, it makes no sense. Nothing makes sense here but hopefully it will eventually.

Luckily writing and walking at the same time is a skill Shion has, so he doesn't slow down very much even as he begins to write.]
yourattention: (no one deserves to fade away)

[personal profile] yourattention 2018-08-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Wait - growing out of the robots? I thought they were metal.

[He's not sure if he was just not paying attention when Shion explained something or he misunderstood, but there's no reason for robots to having flowers growing out of them - flowers can definitely burst through and ear down metals, but if there's no way for things to grow really then like. How? How is this happening?]
savedbyasong: (serious)

[personal profile] savedbyasong 2018-08-02 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
They are. I didn't recognise the metal either. I've never seen it before. [Nothing like any of the metals in his first world and different again to the metal used in the tower.]

It makes no sense for flowers to be growing inside them. But you can see for yourself, we're almost there."

[Indeed they were almost in sight of the automatons and as they became visible in the distance Shion pointed them out.]
