'Cause the Dirt is Up to My Eyes
As of July 10th, the mana pools on Ensō and its islets will now allow for travel to the new island of Umui.

Travelers will arrive on a mana pool situated on the C1 square. The thick crops of flowers spring freely across the lush, grassy landscape, clustered in dense knots. The variety behind these growths seems profoundly limited: it is as though each flower has only sprouted around others of its kind, mingling solely at the edges. A large building looms in the corner of the region, a twisting, unfurling mass of piping and a half-crumbled metallic shine.

Whatever lays inside, or beyond the island's limits, is for you to discover for yourself.

[A pause, again, and there's the rusted mechanical whir of their head twitching on the joints of their neck.]

Directive: Extraction and repair.

(And they're going to see if they can just lift the whole thing, both robot and chair.)

[There's a soft whirr of tuning circuits and buzzing cogs - the robotic equivalent of an exhalation of relief.]

New adm-adm-admin: Legion conffffff-firmed.

(They don't really want to be designated admin-like, it's hard exactly to describe how much no that is other than that it is not Geth-but also, keeping their fellow synthetic calm until they are in better condition is important.

They chatter, considering where it would be best to move them.

They have their backpack with them today, luckily, so what few tools they have are here. Perhaps less disturbance is wise. It is possible that damage will have made this platform fragile.

They decide to relocate it to just outside the building.)

[The problem there is that the growth that fuses them to their seat and, by extension, the floor of the building, is...rather extensive. Creepers and vines twine throughout the rusted pistons of their legs, thick roots swollen over their feet. It's doubtful that much beyond their head and neck - and, by extension, their functions for speech - is at all working.]

[Careful work will have to be done in severing them from the majority of the plant growth anchoring them in place - and one must be careful not to damage anything vital in the process.]

(...Oh well that is a problem.

It's funny that the knife once used to murder robots is now going to be used to save one. Legion pulls it out of their backpack and gets to work, starting with the vines fusing them to the ground.

Gradually, they will work their way upwards, doing their best to carefully extract them from limbs and internal components without causing further damage.

It is, perhaps, fortunate that they are to some degree experienced with both plants and robotics.)

[ The Knight has been here and there exploring the island, but when they see Legion heading somewhere that they've heard was already explored with purpose, they make note of it and decide to come back a little later.

And 'a little later' is now, and they wander into the building as Legion begins their delicate work of freeing one of the automatons from its organic restraints.

Without much fanfare, the Knight draws their own sword and begins using it to help their friend in their work, patiently and carefully trimming away smaller tangles of vines and roots that might interfere, untangling the growth that's keeping this robot trapped.

They work steadily, but with care. It slows them down, but working slowly is not a problem for them. They are patient. ]

[The automaton is, for the most part, silent. Either they cannot move or simply elect not to, while they are extricated from their position, but it is more likely the former.]

[When they have begun to be separated from their anchor into the ground, the unit rasps a quiet ache of noise - the oiled-hinge creak of unwinding circuits.]

Thhhh - ank you.

(It-they are sapient enough to experience gratitude.

It is not entirely surprising, but it does add urgency to their endeavor.)

(Given their condition, it is likely freeing them will not be enough.)

[ The Knight keeps cutting away in the meantime, letting Legion do the talking. Legion knows what they're doing, they're sure. ]

[They sputter silent, but Legion probably gets the idea. Most every system is offline.]

(After a moment, they turn to look at the small figure working on cutting away at the plants.)

Assistance requested: it is likely components of other synthetics of this model will be required.

( The Knight looks up, processing all these new words for a moment, and then looks at the broken robot. Clearly connecting the dots.

They sheathe their sword and nod to Legion. They know where some robots are; they can begin fetching....well.

It does take them a while, and even in their larger form (which they've opted to use for this) they still have to carefully extricate the broken automatons they know of from their final resting places and carry them slowly over, to avoid further damage.

But Legion will certainly get their pick of parts, even if the process is slow. With further instruction, the Knight will help as much as they can to extract what little is left. )

[It is likely obvious by now that the disrepair extends well beyond mere memory circuits; nearly everything in ARUM-25's chassis has been overgrown and rusted, degraded over time and the inexorable pressure of plant matter squeezing around them.]

[Their head creaks downward, the more pieces are brought before them.]

[Then a sputter and fizzle - a spritz of sparks from the segmented joints at their neck, as they turn to Legion in a quiet appeal:]

(They are distressed.

It is possible they are the last synthetic of their type still functioning.

...Is it ethical to repair them?)

Affirmative.

(They have not indicated a desire to cease function. Legion turns to the Knight.)

(And they'll get to work stripping the robots in question for necessary parts.)

( The Knight merely nods in response to Legion's thanks, watching carefully as Legion strips the broken machines, using their clawed fingers to unravel and pick away the plant matter that has dug into the parts over time. Cleaning, as best they can, in readiness for repair.

They have little expertise in mechanisms, but from what they've seen of Hallownest's machines, such parts needed to be clean and free of interference to function.

As they sit and clean, they give ARUM-25 a very, very gentle pat on the head. Leaving their hand there for a moment, a delicate touch, before they go back to their task.

They are not sure if this strange metal creature would understand it, but they try anyway. Touch is all that's left to them for communication of possible reassurance. )

[It's not clear whether ARUM-25 has any sort of synthetic equivalent to nerves, or if they're so deadened by time and age that whatever they may have possessed that would detect a comforting touch has long since gone grim and inactive. But either way, they fall silent, perhaps mercifully so.]

[They do not wish to see the components of their brethren at this time.]

[They'll stay silent for this process, for however long they can.]

(Legion is okay with silence: their work requires concentration, and though it requires few programs to interpret language, the distress associated with the current situation is distracting.

Eventually, they finish the task of stripping the nonfunctional synthetics. If it seems like they've have experience with such tasks it's because they do: Geth platforms were typically recycled once they were no longer usable.)
