This is your new thing now
Who: Gladiolus Amicitia & whoever wants a lesson in Building
What: Prepping materials storage before Umui
When: July 8-10
Where: Enso I3
Warnings: none yet!
It starts with a message on the Stones:
Alright guys, it's Gladio. I'm gonna be working on repairs over on the East coast of the island, up by the mountains there's a lighthouse so we have somewhere central to store shit from this new island. Hit me up if you want lessons.
And true to his word that is where Gladio will be almost exclusively for the next few days. He's told a few people that he'd show them how to make repairs so this is it. He has every intention to fix up the base of the lighthouse and turn this into a long term workshop. Especially now that he has a few f'rshaymes in a pen beside the building. The pen will definitely need to be reinforced but for now it'll suffice, especially with Leopold napping against the fence, ears following the sounds of the naughty little bugs.
First things first he seems to be.... digging.... a pit?
This is... an important part of building? Obviously.

Cobweb is with him, he's been loathe to leave him since the tigerlilly was snatched up by the elevator. Cobweb doesn't seem too worse for wear after his ordeal but he's been sticking quite close to Shion.
He spots Gladio and raises a hand in greeting as he approaches.

Gladio's clad only in those teal leather shorts again and his hair is already tangled up in a sloppy bun to keep it off his neck while he works. He's in a pit about four feet deep when Shion makes his way up towards the coastline.
"Shion!" A shout, a grin, and then Leopold is bounding over to greet Cobweb, all big floppy feet and adolescent energy, chuffing curiously at the other lily.

"Hello Gladio! How is it going?"
He makes his way to the edge of the pit.

Gladio is filthy already, he doesn’t have a proper shovel but he does have a wide flat rock that he’s chipped down to be sharp on one edge which lets him sheer off chunks of the sides of the pit, shoveling it out in baskets once it’s loose. He’s done the entire pit like this. It’s been a long morning.
“Hope you’re ready to bust your butt today, kid.” It’s not kiddo but it’s close. Sorry Shion.
no subject
So instead he just grins and hops into the pit beside Gladio. "Of course I'm ready." He was a Turk, after all.
"What do you want me to do first?"

It's early morning when Ignis arrives at the lighthouse, probably not that long after Gladio himself has arrived. He's got the walking stick Ardyn made him in one hand, but he very quickly realizes how rough the terrain is and stops trying to pick his way through it. Instead, he pauses and calls out for the person he knows is there.
"Gladio! Might I have your assistance for a moment?"
Maybe he should have brought Rory along to help him out, but with both of them and Leopold gone, he'd thought it best to leave the firebird to keep an eye on their chocobo eggs. He would feel terrible if something happened to them while he was away.

"One sec, babe!" Because he has to haul himself up out of the pit first, which takes a moment and a soft grunt as he gets to his feet. Footsteps loud on the rocky ground as he comes closer.
"What are you doing up here?" But he gently guides one of Ignis' hands up to his shoulder, trying to touch him as little as possible because he's a filthy mess already.
no subject
Ignis presses his lips together and then takes a deep breath, straightening his posture. He's going to try. The worst Gladio will do is find him some kind of busy work that's not really work and that will answer his question well enough.
"I...want to help. I'm just not sure how."
no subject
"I got the perfect thing for ya, babe. I'm shit at this but I can teach you the hows and then you can show me up, kay?" Because Ignis has slender, elegant hands and a mind for precision. Gladio's not built for this kind of detail work. So he leads him to the steps to the lighthouse, giving him swift and efficient instruction for the stairs before settling him down at on the floor beside what was formerly a crate and is now a table. Sort of.
"You ever worked with clay before?" He sinks down to sit beside him, leans over to drop a kiss on Iggy's shoulder. Then realizes he's covered in mud and promptly stands back up to go grab a water bottle.

But he is there, completely absorbed in digging a hole. She takes in the lighthose, the pen next to it filled with weird, pig-like animals, and then watches Gladio for a moment, trying to figure out just what he's doing - or, more accurately, why. To no avail.
"Hello?"
no subject
"Hey CT!" He looks up, flashes her a grin and then gestures to a pile of dried dead plant matter that's nearby. "Grab a handful and toss it in here will you?"
Stomp stomp stomp stomp
Mud up to his calves eeewww

She gets close enough to see the mud first, peering curiously into the pit, but actually seeing Gladio stomping around with mud halfway to his knees doesn't clear anything up. Dubiously, she gathers up a handful of the dried foliage and throws it in, watching it fall.
"What...are you doing?"
no subject
"Adobe. This is how we're gonna be fixing the wall." He'll give you a break down on the ratios when they mix up another batch.

He couldn't say he was big on getting himself covered in mud - he was more of a bath and bed type of guy - but he'd do it if needed.
"Hey," he greeted him simply, lifting a hand as he approached. The rope he had around Coco to guide him was more of a lead than anything else, hanging loosely in his hand. Until they could make some more professional gear it was the best he had for him.
"Watcha making?"
no subject
More plans, things to do in his down time.
"Another batch of adobe for that West wall." Y'know the one that's mostly gone. 's all good, Prom.
"You two wouldn't wanna haul some rocks in from the shore would you? There's enough debris I should be able to do a lot of it but there's no way there's enough to fix the whole wall."
no subject
He carefully picked his way down to the shore, bird in tow. They didn't have much to use for Coco yet. Ropes were the main thing, and the possibility of hanging bags on him or tying something too him. Nothing had been fashioned properly for a chocobo. So, he hefted up something he thought would be reasonable for Coco's size, and carefully balanced on him while he strapped it on.
Of course, he wouldn't leave all of the work to Coco. He found himself a good sized chunk to carry under his arm and led the bird back with their first load. Nothing magnificent - it was a young chocobo and scrawny boy doing the work, after all - but it was a start. He carefully set his down by Gladio and started to untie the rope around the rock on Coco.
"So what made you decide to start work here?"
no subject
The question has Gladio looking up from the next basket full of adobe he's hauling out of the pit and laughing, loud and pleased.
"Iggy wouldn't let me keep them near the house!" And he gestures out to the pen he has the f'rshaymes in. "Need more clay to keep up with all the tiles and dishes I need to make."

In other words: here Gladio, have a robot.
"Greetings."
Leeeegion! I am so sorry Gladio is going to be a little paranoid
"Uh... hey." Who says greetings? Besides Iggy. He is going to take a moment to pull himself up out of this pit, not taking his eyes off the Geth. Not that he always expects everyone to jump out and attack or anything but well, one can never be too careful around new tech.
"'sup?"
Hahaha it's fine
...They are absolutely capable of snapping a person's neck with their bare hands. Still adorable though.
"You stated that you were offering lessons?"
no subject
"I am..." Okay that's more surprising. The robot wants to know how to build? "You wanna learn?"
He shrugs, looks back down at the pit and then casts an appraising look back at Legion. "I've got no problems teaching you but I dunno how much you wanna risk gunking up your..." Awkward gesture to his open components. "... bits?"

By the time she reaches the area near the lighthouse, it might be later than some, but he never said when she had to be there, did she?
"...Excuse me?" She speaks up once she notices that he's busy... digging. Huh. "I hope that I'm... Is this the right place?"
no subject
"If you're looking for some starting info on fixing the buildings around here then yeah." Hey wait. It's one of the Stand by Me redheads~ He flashes her a grin, folding his arms on the ground to lean towards her a little without getting up from the pit.
no subject
"Well, thank goodness, because I believe I am." She kneels down, careful not to accidentally tumble into the pit he was working on. "To be honest, I need all the starting info I can get. I've never worked on home improvement before."
no subject
"C'mere. I'll show you the method but... it's less complicated and more just repetitive hard labor."
