all drifters work alone

[The answer is immediate and automatic and uncommitted. Drifters are solitary creatures by nature. They would not have settled into that lifestyle if it did not, in some fashion, suit them.]

[Was it by choice? Nominally. Mostly, it had been secondary. Secondary to the drive, the need to find a cure above all else. Secondary to a drifter's obligation to scour the world in search of broken pieces of history to reclaim, to which they might assign a narrative with enough context.]

[They were not, however, always lonely.]

[For a brief time, they were not.]

[Now?]

[Now, it is...complicated.]
