May Intro: We're Going Down, Down

Floating Islet: And Sugar, We're Going Down Swinging
While new arrivals may generally be expected at this time of the month, one factor that has continuously failed to maintain consistency is their point of arrival. And indeed, it appears that this month has once again exceeded even the Storyteller's expectations as to where arrivals may take their first steps on this world.

Those who were with us in February will most certainly remember the floating islands hovering far, far above the mainland. While they currently remain inaccessible, they are still steadily floating overhead, shifting appearance as if made of the clouds themselves. And so while waking up on top of the world may be a surprise, at the very least new arrivals will have a bird's eye view of Ensō to enjoy for a time...until they take notice of a rather sinking sensation.

In fact, that sensation would be the island itself, starting to sink out of the sky.

So that's nice.

On a crash course for the ground at F6, the Storyteller will eventually slow the island's progress to the ground below, though a rather profound impact is, simply put, inevitable. Characters with the ability of flight will find the island skimming low enough to reach on their own. Others may wish to utilize their resourcefulness to find an alternate means down.

Or, perhaps, you'll simply deal with whatever awaits you at the crash site.

F6 and Beyond: In An Earlier Round
Thankfully, the Storyteller's intervention will ensure that no one still on the not-so-floating island upon impact will escape with minor injuries at worst, the island itself crumbling to pieces and taking down more than a few thick trees. The pieces of the island will very quickly begin to blacken, crumbling underfoot as the floating island turns to dust. Anyone still aboard may wish to make a very quick departure.

The ripples of this impact, however, are far more significant than two pieces of land bumping up against one another.

Previously, visitors to the floating islands may have experienced some...oddities, during their time above the clouds. For the next few days, these oddities will spread across Ensō itself, leading to some rather awkward scenarios:

[ ♆ ] Some may find their weapons are... behaving oddly, though all are still functional. Weapons, in this instance, may also include fisticuffs, if the intent is to use your fists as a weapon.

[ ♆ ] Equally as irritating are those who find themselves coming down with a severe case of NPCitus: periods of time in which they find themselves incapable of saying more than one or two lines of the same, repetitive dialogue.

[ ♆ ] Equal parts nostalgic and irritating for some are the instances of lag (walking forwards, only to find oneself back where they started), Swimmer's Ear (incapable of movement unless swimming through the air), and clipping (suddenly stuck halfway through the nearest rock are all common, regrettable side-effects).

[ ♆ ] Other unfortunate side-effects may also transpire, as varied and wild as one's imagination.

Though many of these may be hindering or even dangerous in the right situations, they are, for the most part, passive. The Storyteller will assure anyone who asks that these oddities will disappear in the next few days.

You are free to create or utilize glitches you are particularly fond of, though keep in mind that any potential content warnings should be mentioned in your toplevel! All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Yeah, I'm uh- I'm pretty sure I'm not from around here. [Or anywhere on this planet at all, but some people took to that kind of news better than others.] The name's Barry. Barry Bluejeans.

[And he likes his drinks shaken, not stirred.]

Did you just wake up here? [He pauses a moment, redirecting himself towards the voice again, it was getting louder so he was getting closer.] Barry, I think I'm close to you. [There's a lot of trees]

Yeah. Gonna hazard a guess and say that's fairly common, round these parts? [Otherwise why make that his first guess? Squinting, Barry keeps his eyes peeled, sincerely wishing he had the ability to turn his head, at least.]

Sounds like it; keep looking. You'll uh- you'll know when you've seen me.

Yes, people arrive once a month. All at once. I imagine it has something to do with how they draw the souls here but I am not completely sure.

[It had been once a month in the Tower as well, they never had worked out why.

He kept looking and soon rounded a corner to see a man, in a tree.

Oh... He rushes over to try and pull the man out]

[How do they do what now? There's- there's a lot to unpack there. A good hundred questions to ask, but they'll have to wait. The more immediate concern should probably stick at getting free.]

Oh, great! Hey. Uh, I guess you should just- grab my face and pull? Just watch the glasses.

[He needs those to live, Shion. Or see.]

I'll be careful [He is, his hand clasp around Barry's head, careful of the glasses and he pulls firmly.

He's not thinking about how Barry is stuck in a tree. It makes no sense, he will worry about it once the man is free]

[Oh boy, okay that's- super not comfortable. Barry grunts, trying not to protest too much when this kid is doing his best to help- blessedly, it does seem to be having some effect, if only slowly. First, he gets his neck back. Then, his shoulders.]

Hold up for a moment.

[Catch your breath for a second, Shion, Barry just- he rolls his shoulders, exhaling in relief.] Man, wouldn't of thought that'd feel so good.

[Shion let's go the moment he was asked to, breathing hard. That was harder than he wanted it to be, once again he was reminded of how he was not strong, how he had still not regained his strength and perhaps that it would not return properly until he grew again.

He smiled softly at Barry] How... how did this happen?

[Good luck growing here buddy pal world's that halt your aging aren't precisely the best place for it.]

Is 'I haven't the foggiest' an acceptable answer? [A chuckle, and a shrug.] Dunno. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going- next thing I know...

[Here he be.]

You uh- you mentioned something about souls, before. What'd you mean by drawing souls here?

It is, lots of things happen that have no explanation. [A fact that used to terrify Shion, but now... Now it was just part of life. Sometimes there were days the sun did not rise, the sun here was apparantly an actual phoenix, science was all wrong, souls were real and death was not.

The multiverse was crazy.] Well we are all from different worlds.[Get the basics out of the way first.] There are places like this world that draw people into them. We might be here in body, I don't have any solid proof that we are not but there is more evidence to support the theory that we aren't... [Real sounds too terrifying. He pauses.]

We have been drawn here in some way, either as a whole or just our souls, or conciousness if souls are not a concept you are familiar with. [He definitely hadn't been. Once.]

No kidding. [He's traveled the universe and could probably explain a good 2% of what he's witnessed with any sort of certainty. It's not just the multiverse that's crazy; life was, point blank.]

So don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from, but uh... I doubt it? [He looks around, pursing his lips.] What you're talking about- it's possible, sure, but not natural. From what I've seen of this place- correct me if I'm wrong here- it's not technologically advanced enough to pull off placing souls or...partial souls in entirely new bodies. Magic can do a lot, sure, but making new bodies isn't part of the deal.

[He's learned that the hard way.]

That's assuming that what we are seeing is reality. [He's been tricked before and so until he has proof beyond doubt that the world around him is not some kind of huge illusion. He accepts that he might be wrong, but also he might be right and if he braces himself for that. If he is ready for when they learn that everything they thought was real is a lie, then maybe the impact of having the world pulled out from under them would be less.

Even if it was natural he also had no proof that magic couldn't make new bodies, move souls around. Laurent had exchanged his soul for a miracle after all and had some kind of artifact as a replacement.]

Even if it is not due to technology we are dealing with gods and who knows what they are capable of.

Okay, fair. [He exhales, unwilling to push it further. Barry gets the feeling this is based off experience which, if it's anything like what Nari said she's been through, he doesn't really want to know. Learning of one world that pulled people in to kill each other for sport was enough, for this week.]

Well, anything like that'll reveal itself eventually. I'll keep an eye out for anything... technologically odd. Or magically odd.

Uh, once I'm out of here.

Oh yes [He blushes slightly. Standing around theorising whilst Barry is still stuck in a tree...

He reaches out to help pull him, by the shoulders this time.] Does this not count as odd?

[He's smiling slightly. He very much understands that sometimes things such as literally being stuck in a tree don't even register as strange anymore. But as odd things that don't obey rules of reality go, this is pretty odd.]

...Okay, yeah. This is pretty weird. [You got him, Shion. Barry chuckles, only refraining from shaking his head to avoid displacing the kid's grip.]

I dunno, this is different? Uh, a... we messed up something environmentally, weird- we did crash a flying island.

[He pulls on Barry's shoulders again, bracing himself as he tries to pull him out of the tree.] Flying islands aren't normal where I come from either.

[Ceej's words are still in his head, about the Story Teller and islands of sand.] I'm not sure why they crashed though. Were you on one? Are you hurt?

It's not common, where I'm from, but it happens. [A grunt as he shifts forward- good job, Shion, he's half out! Now for his legs.] Never seen one crash before, but yeah, I was on one. Me and a few people, not sure how many.

[He kneels down to work on pulling Barry's legs out of the tree. He must come from an interesting world if floating islands existed. But then again he had mentioned magic, so his world would be very different that Shion's.

He hadn't answered if he was injured and so Shion looked him over, checking for any obvious signs of damage. It was a little difficult considering he was still mostly stuck in a tree.] Where did they go? Or did you lose them when the island crashed?

Lost most of 'em, yeah- guess they all got scattered by the impact. Nari, another uh, newcomer? Split with me at the crash site; we were looking for a couple of landmarks, somethin' to come back to.

[One, final grunt and Barry stumbles forwards, exhaling roughly. Fuck, that's so much better... he stretches his arms up over his head, trying to stretch away some of the stiffness.]

Ha, wow. Thanks for that.

[He stepped back once Barry was out of the tree giving him the chance to stretch now that he wasn't trapped anymore.] Don't worry about it, I'm just glad I was able to get you out.

[He smiled again.] I can take you over to the islets where most of us live if you wish. There are huts there, they all need a lot of work but at least they provide some shelter.

I might just take you up on that, in a bit. I-- think one of the people who got thrown off the island was a friend of mine?

[Nari had been in one of those weird dreams, and she was here. Stood to reason Merle was, too.]

In which case I better go find him, he's a magnet for trouble.

Oh. [Shion nodded. It might have been that Barry had seen people he knew in a dream world, just like Shion had found Aster.] Will you be alright? I can help you look if you wish.
