May Intro: We're Going Down, Down

INTRO LOG: MAY
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr
When: May 4th and onward
Where: Ensō...and above
Warnings: Mark as needed!

Floating Islet: And Sugar, We're Going Down Swinging
While new arrivals may generally be expected at this time of the month, one factor that has continuously failed to maintain consistency is their point of arrival. And indeed, it appears that this month has once again exceeded even the Storyteller's expectations as to where arrivals may take their first steps on this world.
Those who were with us in February will most certainly remember the floating islands hovering far, far above the mainland. While they currently remain inaccessible, they are still steadily floating overhead, shifting appearance as if made of the clouds themselves. And so while waking up on top of the world may be a surprise, at the very least new arrivals will have a bird's eye view of Ensō to enjoy for a time...until they take notice of a rather sinking sensation.

In fact, that sensation would be the island itself, starting to sink out of the sky.

So that's nice.

On a crash course for the ground at F6, the Storyteller will eventually slow the island's progress to the ground below, though a rather profound impact is, simply put, inevitable. Characters with the ability of flight will find the island skimming low enough to reach on their own. Others may wish to utilize their resourcefulness to find an alternate means down.

Or, perhaps, you'll simply deal with whatever awaits you at the crash site.

F6 and Beyond: In An Earlier Round
Thankfully, the Storyteller's intervention will ensure that no one still on the not-so-floating island upon impact will escape with minor injuries at worst, the island itself crumbling to pieces and taking down more than a few thick trees. The pieces of the island will very quickly begin to blacken, crumbling underfoot as the floating island turns to dust. Anyone still aboard may wish to make a very quick departure.

The ripples of this impact, however, are far more significant than two pieces of land bumping up against one another.

Previously, visitors to the floating islands may have experienced some...oddities, during their time above the clouds. For the next few days, these oddities will spread across Ensō itself, leading to some rather awkward scenarios:
[ ♆ ] Some may find their weapons are... behaving oddly, though all are still functional. Weapons, in this instance, may also include fisticuffs, if the intent is to use your fists as a weapon.

[ ♆ ] Equally as irritating are those who find themselves coming down with a severe case of NPCitus: periods of time in which they find themselves incapable of saying more than one or two lines of the same, repetitive dialogue.

[ ♆ ] Equal parts nostalgic and irritating for some are the instances of lag (walking forwards, only to find oneself back where they started), Swimmer's Ear (incapable of movement unless swimming through the air), and clipping (suddenly stuck halfway through the nearest rock are all common, regrettable side-effects).

[ ♆ ] Other unfortunate side-effects may also transpire, as varied and wild as one's imagination.
Though many of these may be hindering or even dangerous in the right situations, they are, for the most part, passive. The Storyteller will assure anyone who asks that these oddities will disappear in the next few days.

You are free to create or utilize glitches you are particularly fond of, though keep in mind that any potential content warnings should be mentioned in your toplevel! You may peruse some of the past glitches here, or create your own along those lines! And a special thanks to our local Donn-mun, Jake ([personal profile] venesection), for the first glitch on the list!

All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

You'd be surprised. When there's not much in the way of food lying around, you get creative.

[ Akira crouches down, and gives the fallen creature a poke with the flat of his dagger. When there's no reaction to it, or any movement, he flips it back and into its holder, satisfied that... whatever just happened there definitely killed the target. ]

I'm more interested in how you managed to not hit it, but kill it anyway. That's a talent.
piercetheheart: (♔ unsure)

I- [He frowns and then crouches down on the opposite side of the carcass from Akira.]

I'm kinda wondering about that, too. [But meat is meat so...

He pulls his hunting knife from his boot, flips the animal onto it's back, tugs the skin below the tail taut and then glances up at Akira.]

Uh... might wanna step back, kid.

[ Huh. ] That wasn't intentional?

[ He glances down at the neatly defeated monster with a slight frown. How did it die then? He'd assumed it was a skill or a spell or something, not an entirely random occurrence. ]

... [ Akira just kinda tilts his head. ] Unless you wanted some help? I'm pretty good with my hands.

[ winkwonk ]
piercetheheart: (♔ oh yeah?)

cw: dressing kills

[personal profile] piercetheheart 2018-05-08 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmnope [It'd be cool if it had been intentional though. It's the sort of thing he'd expect from Cor not himself.

He thinks for a moment, looking Akira over, eyeing that dagger. And finally he shrugs.]

You think you can handle it sure. Take hold of those legs up there so it stops rolling. [And once it's stabilized he's going to just shove his knife between the poor thing's tail and it's rectum, cutting all the way around so the whole thing loosens up and will come out with the rest of the digestive tract.]

[ A shame.

Still, Akira steels himself and moves to where Gladio suggests - stabilising the legs of the creature while it is quite literally gutted, completely. It's, uh. A bit graphic, yes. But something worth knowing, yeah.

He can't just wander into a Big Bang Burger here and order a meal here. So, mental note time. ]

You've done this before.
piercetheheart: (up)

[personal profile] piercetheheart 2018-05-09 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shouldn't be supporting Big Bang Burger, anyway.]

A lot.

[It's not difficult once that bit is done, cutting open the abdominal cavity and pulling out the guts. Hopefully it's not too traumatizing for Akira when Gladio slides his arm, all the way up past his elbow, inside the poor animal's carcass to cut the diaphragm away and reach up to detach the windpipe.]

[personal profile] covertizer 2018-05-09 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ But those stat boosts. ]

It shows.

[ He's not sure if it's skill, or just them beefy muscles that make it look so easy. But it's sort of fascinating to watch. Although he does pull back a little when he just... gets all up in there to get rid of more of the innards.

Y i k e s. ]

So, you're removing all the organs to just leave the meat? Does it slow the rotting?
piercetheheart: (♔ questioning)

[personal profile] piercetheheart 2018-05-09 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You wanna take out the guts to preserve the meat.

[Once he's got everything detached he pulls down the lungs in one wide handful. He pauses for a moment and then pulls his t-shirt out of his belt, tossing it down on the ground so he can drop the lungs onto it, followed by the heart.]

Heart's a muscle, cooks up just like the flank. It's rich too so it's actually really good for you. But the guts? [And her he pulls the whole sack of the abdominal cavity out and plunks it onto the grass.] You wanna keep that contained and away from your meat. Cause if you do puncture it?

[He's going to demonstrate this just to prove how disgusting things would be if you did burst the sack inside the body. So he plunges the knife into the guts, breaking the sack and letting the intestines and associated bits and fluids spill onto the grass.]

Don't do it careful and that is what's on your meat. You can't just wash that off. Gotta cut away all the contaminated shit.
covertizer: (025)

[personal profile] covertizer 2018-05-10 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He has never even thought of cooking a heart before, and is in the middle of considering the possibilities, how that might taste and whether or not there might be some jokes he could come up with over this...

and then Gladio is stabbing the guts and they're just... imploding a sewer over the grass. Pleasant. ]

Right. Careful with the guts, or everything goes wrong. But everything else you can use, one way or another?

[ Bones... could be like... building stuff? Maybe? They have to use everything they can here, after all. ]
piercetheheart: (Default)

[personal profile] piercetheheart 2018-05-13 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Hide for leather, meat for food, bones can make good tools and a lot of areas that can’t be used for anything else can get cooked down for hide glue.

[He sighs, eyes the carcass and then just shrugs, turning to wipe his blade clean with a couple of leaves.]

Gonna be a bit before I can start making glue, though. Gotta get a kiln built and make some pots.
covertizer: (024)

[personal profile] covertizer 2018-05-14 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Glue...

[ ... Of all things. ]

The less that goes to waste the better, I guess. Especially as hunting takes a while. [ He'd never considered things like making leather from the hide - just that it was thicker and could probably be used to insulate a roof or something.

All these new possibilities... ]

You could always cash some favours in when you get them. The Storyteller could probably get a better kiln for you, and faster.

[personal profile] piercetheheart 2018-05-15 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've been hunting for a long time, think we'll get by. Hunting doesn't take that long, Akira, honestly. And cleaning doesn't take long either. All of maybe four minutes to field dress a centipuppy.

He looks up to Akira, amused.]

Probably take me... maybe 3 days to do up a kiln? Long as I can find the resources I need, which shouldn't take much.
