[The bouncing of a ball - big or small, certainly catches the attention of a curious pup wandering through the area. Ammy certainly has enjoyed this island, despite its many dangers - both in monstrous form and ways of deadly, poisonous flowers, so her wanderings have taken her to many places. She's a bit dusty, covered in probably a heap of pollen and a few dandelion seeds, so hopefully they don't aggravate the poor Drifter when she approaches, tilting her head and pawing slightly at their ball.

This ball is far too big to throw...but she's sure she could catch it either way. And she's very determined to try and fit it into her mouth as well. So...hrm. Are they going to throw it? She plants her bottom on the grass and looks almost expectantly from the ball, to the Drifter, and back again.]

[Dogs like to play with soccer balls and tennis balls and all sorts of spherical objects besides, and what is a wolf god but a sort of dog, in many respects? She certainly behaves like one at times - such as now.]

[Hm. Plainly she does want the ball, but it wouldn't be as simple as kicking it to her. That does not sound particularly fun for a quadruped, after all.]

[So the Drifter draws their blade, igniting the blaze of cerluean, and winds back with the flat of it, aiming carefully - ]

[befoRE STRAIGHT UP WHACKING IT RIGHT AT HER]

[Ammy blinks when her blue-skinned friend draws their blade, tilting her head to one side with a questioning noise, but it's too little too late to be asking questions. The blade strikes the ball and all of a sudden it's speeding at her with such a speed and such a force that Amaterasu reacts before her mind can even think to do so.

She jerks her head to the side and catches the ball with her reflector on the swing, smacking it back like a tennis player might. Not the correct game for a soccer ball, but...eh, it's still within the rules. Kind of. Of course, once she realizes they're playing this sort of game, the wolf begins barking frantically and bouncing around with her tail wagging behind her, tongue lolling out from her smiling face.

Again!!]

[The soccer child had only ever batted it about with their feet, seemingly perfectly content with the Drifter's use of their weapons in the game - likely because the child could best them even with their weapons in the playing field - and so it is not perhaps a shock that the wolf god would react accordingly.]

[The ball comes skating past with enough force for the Drifter to skid across the ground in an attempt to catch it. It bounces and rolls across the grass before they can batter it back, but Amaterasu is clearly delighted enough with the initial volley for the Drifter to immediately comply and slam their blade it into it again.]

[Let's see if they can keep it in the air for longer this time.]

[Immediately, the wolf's eyes begin to follow the course of the ball as it begins to soar up into the air. She pants excitedly, rushing after it with a trailing line of flowers, nose pointed to where the ball is headed her way. Amaterasu hasn't really played a game like this before - normally the game she plays are races and fun drawing games. The 'usual', so it were. This is a great change of pace, and already she's enjoying herself.

When the ball finally dips down toward her, instead of using her reflector to whack it back, she instead leaps up with power and force directed into her back legs and butts it with her head instead. Not as powerful as a precise smack from her reflector, but the wolf is a tough nut to crack - that ball definitely is going up again.]

[This is how a game of soccer turns into a game of netless volleyball instead. The Drifter has never encountered volleyball, and thus has no idea that they're engaging in something...quite different than the norm. They're not quite fast enough to catch the ball again after the wolf headbutts it. It bounces and rolls across the grass.]

[They can, however, hook one booted foot deftly beneath it and bounce it into the air, and then use that borrowed momentum to kick it at her once more.]
mamaterasu: (SUPER EFFECTIVE!)

[personal profile] mamaterasu 2018-05-16 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[To be fair, neither has Ammy - though she has played games of keeping something airborne for as long as you can and the one who doesn't catch it or lets the ball hit the ground is the loser. The actual term would be lost on her, but who really cares what it is they're playing? Ammy certainly doesn't - she just is happy to know she and her little, blue friend are having fun together.

It's when the Drifter misses the ball that she barks - point goes to her, ohoho!! But the game resumes, and she huffs, racing forward to try and smack it back with her reflector again. Sadly, sand isn't as easy for her to run on as grass is, and the wolf hits a dip in the sand and goes plummeting face first into the ground with a startled yelp. The ball? Bounces off her rump, slides down her tail, and rolls calmly a few feet before stopping.

Point to Drifter.]

[The Drifter doesn't quite stop dead, but their heart jumps in their chest when the god yips and falls. The jag of adrenaline only boils for a moment - she is a god, and it could be foolish to assume that something as small as a skip and a tumble would truly lay her low. Nonetheless, they're unaccustomed to deities who mingle in this particular manner, who throw dignity to the winds in favor of...fun.]

[They kneel briefly, just to ensure that she's...okay, regardless.]

[Ammy is indeed fine, physically anyway - though her pride has taken a slight lashing. Alas, this is not the first time, however, and the wolf is quick to recover from such indignities. She pulls herself from the sand, shaking off the itchy grains from her fur and clearing up any dizziness from her her tumble.

Woof, it really is a lot harder to run in sand than it is on dirt. Even so, she is undeterred, and resumes their game right away, looking around first for the ball before going to fetch it and plop it back down at the Drifter's feet.

...After chewing it a bit. Sue her, she's still a dog.]

[As long as she doesn't utterly ruin the ball so soon after they've got it, they honestly can't and won't complain. The best soccer balls are a little lived-in, after all. The shiny patina of newness has got to wear off sometime.]

[Are they playing fetch now? They're not sure when the game changed, but the question should be asked as to whether they were ever playing anything else in the first place. It seems the answer for now trends toward "no, probably not."]

[Ah, well. They'll gladly kick the ball a ways off, to see if she's still feeling it.]
