Islander meeting!

Who: Everyone!
What: An information gathering meeting, mingle log style!
When: 13th as advertised Here!
Where: Big tent, islet 4 (sorry Ardyn!)
Warnings: Keep an eye on subject lines for warnings!

[The tent is a good place to have this. It's sheltered at least. Shion has collected strawberries and also water. He hopes that people will turn up, there's a lot to discuss. About this place, how they are here and how to leave. But also surviving here. Helping each other make the most of being here.

They had done such things in the Tower and it was a good way to get things organised. He knows he has questions and he thinks other people probably do as well. If it's anything like the Tower then people all have different bits of information that will fit together eventually.

He greats people as they enter and will encourage anyone who looks less than certain to enter and offer them strawberries.]

((OOC: So I'll put up a subthread for mingling before the meeting, then discussion points can be posted as a reply to this main thread. I'll do a few for things Shion will bring up but feel free to post your own points as well! Tag around, do breakout threads, discuss all the things. Don't worry if things go off topic. Have fun!)

This is certainly an event Lup can't miss. If anyone should be telling these fools, new and old, how to run this island? It's her. Also, free food! She tosses a few strawberries into her mouth and crunches the seeds thoughtfully.

"Y'know, honestly? Don't expect too much of them and you won't be disappointed. They're not super great at like... things. Like knowing what's happening on their world or even their own fuckin island, or like, how to handle a bunch of interplanar mortals who keep showin up on their dang lawn. But... I believe they're trying to do better, and they wanna help. They have helped, last month wasn't the first time."

There's gonna be at least a couple clowns here who are gonna have some shit to say about this, she knows, but she wouldn't be Lup if she wasn't certain of her beliefs. Bring it tbh.

"Look, I've been here since day one of fucking Fantasy Lost," she shrugs and glances down at the white-haired boy. "Whatcha wanna know, pumpkin? Hit me." Or like, anyone who needs schooling from your wise island elder Lup.

Oh shit it's a lil nerd. He's even got a book, and the trademark inability to shut the heck up. Lup smiles indulgently and lets him run out of breath before answering.

"We woke up on dinky ass rafts out on the freaking ocean, I guess like two or three people to a raft? It was a whole thing even getting to shore." Her arms hurt for like a week. Not to mention she had to listen to Taako brag about his boat surfing stunt for about that long. She refuses to recall the sick panic of waking up without him by her side, though one ear flicks back as if remembering anyway. "I didn't wake up with Tim, nah, I was with-- with Kidwun and Ed." How that boat made it to shore in one piece will forever remain a shitty island mystery. But she's real glad it went down the way it did, all told.

"I guess there must've been... uhh, like twenty, thirty people coming through the store that first month? Most of them aren't around anymore. No islands or islets either, lil dude, we all camped out in the temple and explored Enso uphill both ways in the-- you know, heat. The Storyteller used our first stories to create the islets with a couple ruined buildings to get us off their couch, as it were. Monsun was the first island they pulled close for us to like, check for resources and info." Kinda uh, kinda skipping an important step in the chronology and rabbit character growth here, but she'll wait for more questions before she gets into all of that.
hellawrath: (it stops here)

Lup exhales a breath almost like a sigh, knowing there's no way around bringing up fricking crystal death bonanza now. Not that she was gonna leave it out, it's important, it's just, not super great to talk about or really think about at all actually? Oh well.

"I think-- we didn't ask for islands, that wasn't up to us. The rabbit uses some of the story juice we give them for our requests, but I think a lot of it goes into just, their general powers? And they do with that what they want, pretty much. The voting is a thing now cuz they learned to listen to us." And what a fucking rough lesson it was. Lup chews on her lip thoughtfully, kinda torn between her remembered fury and hurt, how she still doesn't forgive them, and how much faith she does have in them now. Maybe just start at the beginning.

"So when we were exploring Enso, that first, second month here, we found two locked doors engraved with some sigils that were keeping the Storyteller out. One up on the top of the mountain, the other one in the old monkey camp, down on the Southern shore. They had no idea why it was keeping them out, or what it was keeping in, and they became so damn convinced the answer to us washing up here was behind those doors that they-- They locked us in there with a week's supply of food and left us." There's no keeping the bitterness out of her voice now, especially since she'd fucking warned them not to do it, beforehand. She'd seen the disaster coming a mile off and their esteemed god of fucking storytelling, of shit literally going bad for their protagonists like all the time, didn't give a single flying fuck.

"And by us I mean all of us, it wasn't fucking optional." Every child, everyone scared or unsuited to a mission into probable danger. Nobody deserved what was coming for them, but it's so much worse that way.

The boy's comment actually gets through Lup's bitterness and she blinks down at him for a sec. Shit, so it's not his first rodeo either. Guess that shouldn't come as a surprise, seeing how pretty much all the kids here have been through some kinda wringer before all this. It just still sucks, every time. At least that means she's not about to like, ruin his faith in the Storyteller forever or something.

"There was-- Well at first we just found a bunch of ancient buildings carved into the caves, which is weird enough on its own? Nothing much was even left, and those sigils were everywhere. But there was this, this glowing crystal cropping up everywhere. And the further down we went, the more of it there was. And then uh, big crystal golems started attacking us. Took some doing to take one down, but once you did and you really, you properly looked at it? You could tell there was something inside. Somebody." Fuck, no more talking around it. No thinking about how, how Taako could've been one of those things if he'd-- if she and Chara hadn't found him. The conclusion is inevitable, and her voice shows it, growing hard and flat for what's ahead.

"The crystal was transmuting people. Like an infection. Most people had touched it, used it for lighting or, or blew it up to get at the sigils, breathed in the dust and-- It, it grew so slowly. I think some people survived by cutting the crystal out fast, but-- Lots of people died, down there. Horribly." And that's all she's gonna say. That's all she has to say, to get the point across. No reason to paint a fucking word picture here of the suffering of the infected, and of those who-- who could do nothing for the people they cared about, except to make it quick.

"The Storyteller got us out once the last of us left had destroyed all the sigils. Revived the dead a couple days later. They were... horrified at what they'd done, and they promised they'd never force us to go anywhere against our will ever again."

Seconded. They've certainly done us wrong in the past, but unless they're an excellent actor waiting for a specific opportunity those are mistakes. I'm inclined to think they're not against us.

"I don't think they know much about themselves, either. Or at least, not at a place they can talk about it. But like everyone else said I think they're doing their best." He holds up his hands and spreads them apart. "They have a gap of understanding. I don't know but it feels like if anyone tried to reach them personally before...it's been a long time since then."

Storyteller...what drew him in was the way they talked about events and tried to get him to understand...He scrubs at his face and drops his hands to his sides. "We have a gap in understanding them too. We have to work together, them and us to find the middle ground. I noticed their ability to act or know something has some limits. If a group rejects stories...I don't think they can follow or know beyond the point the group rejected them. Does that make sense?"
thisisourfuture: (...you just changed your tone.)

"...isn't that..." He pauses, eyes narrowing and turns fully to Shion. "Did you hear about the Siege on the sun yet? That might hold an important piece of evidence for why Storyteller doesn't like the sea. They didn't mind the Jormun." It would make sense if that bit of evidence was why.

The creatures that came out of the depths were something violent and strange. They wanted the night to never end. Just thinking about them makes his fingers curl into his palm. So many lives were lost. He'd tried to save them all but people die. Sometimes doctors can do nothing about it. "What did they say, as word for word as you can get about the sea?"

That...sounds different than what he thought. He thinks it over and voices the one thing that sticks out to him. “Maybe we’re looking at this wrong. It sounds like they were saying they can’t understand them. That sounds more like the unknown worries them. All those things listed don’t have stories they tell or a society as we understand it. Right?”

He crosses his arms over his chest and the more he thinks about it. The more sure he is. “Yeah. Did they say anything else about it?”

"It sounds so much like how they've told me things before. ...it might not be right, but it's a way to pose your questions." That alone could be something. The better they can communicate the more they'll come closer to one day understanding each other. Hinata holds up a hand.

"...I think the more we work with them. The more they might come to understand through us. I'm not certain. I'll even ask them about it. Just in case I'm misunderstanding their limitations."

"They might not know how to answer. We'll see." He is determined to see this through. Where ever it leads. ...if they have this. Hinata blows out a breath. "They warned me about other gods before...before I came back from being home for a while."

He pauses. "I don't remember how it happened. Just a little while before the siege. I woke up with more memories in my head than they'd had there before. And," He gestures to himself. "I'm 22. Not 17. That's a pretty significant age change."
