A9: Sow the Seed
Unbeknownst to new arrivals, the archipelago of LifeAftr has recently seen the appearance of a new island, as chosen via voting - and they have been unceremoniously placed there instead of upon Ensō, where most newcomers would typically appear. It's probably for the best that the island of Ziziphus is so outwardly peaceful.

There are worse places to find yourself, all things considered. The mana pool glimmers with a greenish light, the stone ring containing that peculiar fluid set firmly into the earth. The surrounding land fits neatly into that general aesthetic: rippling fields stirred by the occasional crisp breeze alternate between amber-golden and rich, verdant green in coloration, and irregular patches of color signify the presence of a great deal of flowers of all sorts.

It's a peaceful scene.

We're sure you're all about to make it go horribly wrong.

B9: Reap the Harvest
For the unluckier, or the more adventurous, something far less tranquil awaits. Perhaps you woke up on this particular map square instead, or you saw fit to journey a little farther, just to see what might happen. In any case, you'll quickly discover that this may not have been the best idea, when an ordinary grassy mound abruptly detaches itself from the ground, hauls itself upright on bristling legs, and starts scuttling near.

SPINDLANKS have now been unlocked in the bestiary.
What might initially appear to be a leafy hillock will very quickly prove to be something far more...mobile, if you get close enough. That clump of grass and red ferns will abruptly hoist itself up on six vine-like tendrils, crawling for its prey like a very large, mossy spider. While it's fully capable of swiping at its foes with its massive, leafy arms, the spindlank's favored method of dispatching its prey is simply to scuttle forth until it's positioned directly above you and drop down. If its weight does not crush you and choking on the clods of earth doesn't smother you, don't worry; the spindlank intends to eat you alive with a set of fleshy jaws set deep in its center, buried somewhere in its underbelly.

For despite their appearance, spindlanks are very much carnivorous. Their size can vary from anywhere between six and ten feet tall when their appendages unfurl entirely. They are, in essence, very large plants, and thus can be easily dealt with, if you can burn them.

Just try not to get overwhelmed.

All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

[Shepard is once again roaming the newest island given to them all by the Storyteller. It's interesting how the fantastical can become routine but that seems to just be her life for the past three or four years now. At least this island is quiet. And not the quiet of citizens trying to keep their heads down and hide from the law but the quiet of nothing quite being here. Other than plants.

It's calming all in all. But clearly it's not calming for everyone, as Shepard climbs up the cliff to look out over the landscape herself and sees quite a handsome man losing his goddamned mind with a scythe.]

Hey there. You new?

[She's not surprised at all that this is happening.]

[The tips of slightly pointed ears raise at her voice, and he turns, trying to mask that he's slightly out of breath from his attempts. It doesn't help that he's standing in direct tropical sunlight in a full black wool looking suit, but he absolutely refuses to take it off, still believing this stay much more temporary than it's about to be. He straightens up, tucking the scythe under his arm to stand beside him.]

My apologies if I've disturbed you, or intruded on your, er, island. I ensure you, I'll be out after I fix some, uhm... technical difficulties.

This isn't my island. My island is one mana pool jump away from here.

[She's pretty sure he won't understand a word she just said but she continues on as she eyes him.]

If any difficulties you have are with tech, it ain't gonna get fixed any time soon. This place hates technology. If you meant that more as an expression than any real techno biz, you might have a little more luck. But once again- this place likes to mess with people.

[She quirks an eyebrow.]

Did you just come from a funeral?

[Shepard, please, stop slamming the renegade button...]

[Mana pool jump. Fantastic. Just... just fucking fantastic. He's completely out of his depth here, and there's just so many things to focus on he just blinks once or twice and picks one.]

No, it's not-- not actually tech. It's magic. Or well, a divine connection to another plane with an artifact of... you probably don't care.

[He has never found someone who really cares, so.]

You said it likes to mess with people? It has a, uhm, a consciousness?

On the contrary, I do care. Magic, huh?

[He doesn't look like Muffet. Or any of the other Monsters she's met. But at this point she's seen so much weird shit it doesn't faze her. She'll figure it out in time.]

That's what I think, at least. Well. I'm not sure about this island, the bets are still out on that one, but the mainland seems to have a personality, same with its deity.

[That... actually wasn't what eh was expecting to hear on either front. Somehow, it's only getting more confusing, even when he thinks he's reached his peak.]

Yes, magic. I'm going to assume that if you're talking about lands having personas, that having magic isn't a weird answer.

[He'd like things to start making sense, but he's getting the impression that's not about to happen.]

Do you live here?

Not as weird as it used to be. A good portion of the people who have been kidnapped here have some magic capability.

[She nods in the affirmative.]

Been here for a good handful of months now. Before you ask, no, I have no idea what brought you here.

So you don't know who did it, but it is a kidnapping, then?

[That's... possibly worse!]

I'm going to assume you're from another world then as well. Do you know how many connections there are here? I should be able to reach at least one.

[Come on weird island, one isn't so hard, right?]

A kidnapping of some kind, probably, though no one has really seen the kidnappers themselves. And you're right, I am.

[A world full of stars and aliens and the apocalypse... hm, probably not that far off from Kravitz's own!]

Connections? If you mean the mana pools, only one to the main island is currently available.

[He hums, crossing his arms.]

No, that's not what I meant-- not other places here, other worlds. If I can reach another plane, I might be able to reorient myself with this system and figure out exactly where we're located. I suspect this could be the plane of thought, though I've never actually known anyone to inhabit that to travel.

[It's not a super solid place, usually.]

[Ah. Another world traveler, it seems. There are a lot of them here, Shepard has come to find.]

I don’t know anything about your planes, but I highly doubt this is a “plane of thought”. If any thought was put into this place, it’s been subsequently abandoned to the whims of a careless world.

[Woof Shepard! How nihilist!]
