April Intro: The Flower Ripens in its Place

INTRO LOG: APRIL
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr
When: April 3rd and onward
Where: Ziziphus
Warnings: Mark as needed!

A9: Sow the Seed
Unbeknownst to new arrivals, the archipelago of LifeAftr has recently seen the appearance of a new island, as chosen via voting - and they have been unceremoniously placed there instead of upon Ensō, where most newcomers would typically appear. It's probably for the best that the island of Ziziphus is so outwardly peaceful.
There are worse places to find yourself, all things considered. The mana pool glimmers with a greenish light, the stone ring containing that peculiar fluid set firmly into the earth. The surrounding land fits neatly into that general aesthetic: rippling fields stirred by the occasional crisp breeze alternate between amber-golden and rich, verdant green in coloration, and irregular patches of color signify the presence of a great deal of flowers of all sorts.

It's a peaceful scene.

We're sure you're all about to make it go horribly wrong.

B9: Reap the Harvest
For the unluckier, or the more adventurous, something far less tranquil awaits. Perhaps you woke up on this particular map square instead, or you saw fit to journey a little farther, just to see what might happen. In any case, you'll quickly discover that this may not have been the best idea, when an ordinary grassy mound abruptly detaches itself from the ground, hauls itself upright on bristling legs, and starts scuttling near.

SPINDLANKS have now been unlocked in the bestiary.

What might initially appear to be a leafy hillock will very quickly prove to be something far more...mobile, if you get close enough. That clump of grass and red ferns will abruptly hoist itself up on six vine-like tendrils, crawling for its prey like a very large, mossy spider. While it's fully capable of swiping at its foes with its massive, leafy arms, the spindlank's favored method of dispatching its prey is simply to scuttle forth until it's positioned directly above you and drop down. If its weight does not crush you and choking on the clods of earth doesn't smother you, don't worry; the spindlank intends to eat you alive with a set of fleshy jaws set deep in its center, buried somewhere in its underbelly.

For despite their appearance, spindlanks are very much carnivorous. Their size can vary from anywhere between six and ten feet tall when their appendages unfurl entirely. They are, in essence, very large plants, and thus can be easily dealt with, if you can burn them.

Just try not to get overwhelmed.

All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

[Listening to Kanata's words, Takane's attention moves towards his hand silhouetted against the moon, tilting her head to the side slightly with curiosity. Her gaze then follows it down towards the surface of the ocean. Upon realizing how clearly the night sky reflected itself against the water, thanks to the absence of light pollution from the city, her eyes sparkled with delight as much as the moon and stars she sees below her did. Why hasn't she thought of this!]

My goodness! It is as you say, Kanata. It is as if the night sky, the moon and all of the stars, are surrounding us and enjoying the ocean as we are. Truly, I feel as though I could touch them...

[Actually, she'll just do that. Sort of. Takane bends forward, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear as she uses the other to lightly splash at the water's surface, rippling the night sky's reflection. Like an overly invested child, she continues to do so as she speaks:]

However... Though I am far away, and there is never a day I miss my dear comrades and all else I treasure, rarely have I experienced the feeling of loneliness here. Such is due to having met you and the others on this island. [She'll pause from playing with the night sky's reflection briefly to shoot a quick glance at Kanata, a playful smile on her face.] Perhaps I shall pay a visit to your campus out of gratitude when we are set free from this world? Fufu...

[ The happiness that unfolds across Takane's face at this realization is mirrored by Kanata as he watches her stoop to splash at the water. He's been a little more attentive of the moon since his first meeting with her, knowing now that she treasures it perhaps the same way he does the sea. The light it offers them tonight, and the way it emphasizes the beauty of the water, and how it brings him closer to this newfound friend. ]

Ehehe, it is hard to "become" lonely when you are not alone, isn't it..? [ That's something he adjusted to at Yumenosaki, but he likes how it's a lesson maintained here all the same— no matter how much his heart starts to pull at the thought of his friends back home, he has the handful here to keep close.

With Takane's suggestion of a visit, Kanata turns his backs to the oncoming waves and watches her with a moment of genuine surprise that he shakes off as quick as he can. He hasn't thought about the aspect of going home much, let alone that he may or may not see these new friends if that's what happens. ]

I.. am "graduating" soon, you know~? Koutei-san, too. [ Is the first thing he can think of to say, still sounding distant before he can return her smile in full. ]

But if I could see Takane "even after" we are sent home.. I would be very happy to greet her with all of my "sea friends", and the rest of RYUSEITAI. I am only the "Vice-Captain", so it is probably not up to me.. but since it is a unit of "five people", Takane could be something like a temporary member while we are here..~?

[Graduating... How very interesting. So that was that time of the year for him. She notes the distant tone of his voice, but she doesn't acknowledge it outwardly. Takane can only imagine how bittersweet it is for him, seeing how well he looks out for Shinobu. So, she'll steer the subject to happier ones out of consideration.]

Fufu... I am most grateful to be offered such a lovely honor. [Even if it's temporary and just an unofficial thing for fun, Takane finds the idea slightly fun. She always did wonder how it felt to be in a unit, like Ryuuguu Komachi. She glances up at the night sky, towards the moon thoughtfully.] RYUSEITAI... It sounds like those "hero shows." Though I am still ignorant to much of how the outside world works, I confess I have a slight fondness for that sort of thing...

It is a unit "made up" of heroes, you see.. [ Or, it's supposed to be? Chiaki is the hero running the show, and Kanata willingly let himself be dragged along. And while he doesn't have that same energy the sun grants everything around it, he's sure that their beloved Ryusei Red wouldn't mind this temporary unit- that's a thing in sentai, maybe, right? ]

Our activities, they are things such as putting on "hero shows" for the children.. and also watching tokusatsu DVDs.. [ He wants to laugh explaining it, but he's glad Takane seems like she's taking to the idea. ] But as long as they are "hero-like" activities, I do not think it matters much what we do..~?

[ Since there are no DVD players on the islands, and no children to perform hero shows for.. ]

And our names, too.. Chiaki is "red", and I am "blue".. If it is not green, or yellow, or black, then Takane can be any color she likes, fufu. ♪
