April Intro: The Flower Ripens in its Place

INTRO LOG: APRIL
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr
When: April 3rd and onward
Where: Ziziphus
Warnings: Mark as needed!

A9: Sow the Seed
Unbeknownst to new arrivals, the archipelago of LifeAftr has recently seen the appearance of a new island, as chosen via voting - and they have been unceremoniously placed there instead of upon Ensō, where most newcomers would typically appear. It's probably for the best that the island of Ziziphus is so outwardly peaceful.
There are worse places to find yourself, all things considered. The mana pool glimmers with a greenish light, the stone ring containing that peculiar fluid set firmly into the earth. The surrounding land fits neatly into that general aesthetic: rippling fields stirred by the occasional crisp breeze alternate between amber-golden and rich, verdant green in coloration, and irregular patches of color signify the presence of a great deal of flowers of all sorts.

It's a peaceful scene.

We're sure you're all about to make it go horribly wrong.

B9: Reap the Harvest
For the unluckier, or the more adventurous, something far less tranquil awaits. Perhaps you woke up on this particular map square instead, or you saw fit to journey a little farther, just to see what might happen. In any case, you'll quickly discover that this may not have been the best idea, when an ordinary grassy mound abruptly detaches itself from the ground, hauls itself upright on bristling legs, and starts scuttling near.

SPINDLANKS have now been unlocked in the bestiary.

What might initially appear to be a leafy hillock will very quickly prove to be something far more...mobile, if you get close enough. That clump of grass and red ferns will abruptly hoist itself up on six vine-like tendrils, crawling for its prey like a very large, mossy spider. While it's fully capable of swiping at its foes with its massive, leafy arms, the spindlank's favored method of dispatching its prey is simply to scuttle forth until it's positioned directly above you and drop down. If its weight does not crush you and choking on the clods of earth doesn't smother you, don't worry; the spindlank intends to eat you alive with a set of fleshy jaws set deep in its center, buried somewhere in its underbelly.

For despite their appearance, spindlanks are very much carnivorous. Their size can vary from anywhere between six and ten feet tall when their appendages unfurl entirely. They are, in essence, very large plants, and thus can be easily dealt with, if you can burn them.

Just try not to get overwhelmed.

All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

[Snowbright? That's...definitely a new one. Better than Snowball or Snowflake, but she's never heard those two words used together for a name. It's different, but it works pretty well...and her fur does have the brightness of freshly fallen snow, after all. She blinks, but wags her tail to the offered hand, rolling over onto her stomach to give the man's hand a quick sniff before she licks his palm. The actual, and correct, form of a handshake with a dog, obviously.

There' something strangely familiar about this guy, now that Ammy actually takes a better look at him. His scent also is...familiar, but doesn't quite jog her memory (which is pretty bad to begin with) enough to put a name or anything to it. Hm... She tilts her head from side to side, ears twitching, but it doesn't seem to help any. She's too scatterbrained, and Jaune has been gone too long, for her to remember much more than a hint of his scent. Even so, Ammy still greets him kindly.

...

What's a Weiss?]

[There's another ghost of a smile when she licks his hand. Taking that as warm a welcome as any, Jaune extends it to pet her behind the ears.]

I'm gonna call you 'Light for short if you're okay with it. Sorry if I interrupted you. I'm not sure what I would've interrupted you doing, but in case you were sleeping. Is this your home? I know you can't talk, unleeeess you're like the dog in my other dream who told me Lindsay Lazul was actually an alien taking over Remnant, but at least you're not trying to kill me. That's cool.

[Those pets are as welcome and appreciate as a meal would have been, and Ammy pants hard as she leans her head into them and slaps the ground with her tail. She's always so surprised anyone would think she'd go on the attack right away, but then again...these people are from other worlds, and wolves are still wild and dangerous animals. It's just something she finds so surprising, considering Nippon's views of wolves are so high, given the legend of Nagi and Shiranui.

Also, she's been likened to a dog more than a wolf so many times. Probably because of her open and friendly nature. Ah well, it's better this way - she has so many friends, and it's nice. They pet and feed her, and she can look after them so much better when she's so close.

Ammy rolls over and gets onto her feet, shaking out the grass and pollen from her fur on sheer reflex. She scratches at a few pebbles clinging to the fur on her neck and turns her head to one side. Light? Ah, it's better - definitely better - and she seems to hum thoughtfully before nodding her head that she accepts the nickname. Second...nickname, heh. Everything else he says is total gibberish, but Ammy blink slowly and shakes her head to his one question - no she can't quite talk. I-I mean, she can...but shes not entirely fond of doing so without a good reason.

She can write though, and looking down at the ground before him, Jaune will see flowers grow up from the ground in a pattern before him, making a very obvious and distinct face:

[He hasn't stopped paying attention around them, but he has relaxed a little, smiling easily as his voice takes on a higher...doggie talk pitch.]

You're a good girl aren't you? You're the best girl! Did you just-- No, it can't be. Dogs don't nod. Do they?

[Well she isn't growling either. He removes some stray blades of grass that fell into his hair. He'll definitely feed her later-- Once he finds some food, anyway. He can't just let this cute innocent animal go hungry. He stares at her pensively, almost certain she shook her head this time. Maybe she's just really intelligent.

Or magic. Definitely magic because now there are flowers blooming between them and there's no mistaking what that symbol is. He gasps, pressing both hands to his face.]

Oh my god.

[You know, it's a bit demeaning as a god to be talked to in such a way, but...it is technically praise, which empowers her. Besides, let's face it, she is a good girl. The best girl, even!! Ammy's tail begins to wag faster as the praise ripples to life from Jaune, and she pants hard, tempted to give his face a wet, sticky kiss - she remembers him only faintly, but it's there. A faint feeling that they're met once or twice. Was it in another world, like the others she's seen about? Or here? Her memory is too poor...oh well.

Ammy's panting stops for a short moment, and her lips curl up at the corners into a happy, almost sly sort of smirk. Is he figuring it out? Yep, there it is. Heh heh...humans are really funny. She swishes her tail at him again, tilting her head almost innocently with a soft noise in her throat. Is there something the matter? :3a]
