April Intro: The Flower Ripens in its Place

INTRO LOG: APRIL
Who: Everyone!
What: New souls arrive to the archipelago of LifeAftr
When: April 3rd and onward
Where: Ziziphus
Warnings: Mark as needed!

A9: Sow the Seed
Unbeknownst to new arrivals, the archipelago of LifeAftr has recently seen the appearance of a new island, as chosen via voting - and they have been unceremoniously placed there instead of upon Ensō, where most newcomers would typically appear. It's probably for the best that the island of Ziziphus is so outwardly peaceful.
There are worse places to find yourself, all things considered. The mana pool glimmers with a greenish light, the stone ring containing that peculiar fluid set firmly into the earth. The surrounding land fits neatly into that general aesthetic: rippling fields stirred by the occasional crisp breeze alternate between amber-golden and rich, verdant green in coloration, and irregular patches of color signify the presence of a great deal of flowers of all sorts.

It's a peaceful scene.

We're sure you're all about to make it go horribly wrong.

B9: Reap the Harvest
For the unluckier, or the more adventurous, something far less tranquil awaits. Perhaps you woke up on this particular map square instead, or you saw fit to journey a little farther, just to see what might happen. In any case, you'll quickly discover that this may not have been the best idea, when an ordinary grassy mound abruptly detaches itself from the ground, hauls itself upright on bristling legs, and starts scuttling near.

SPINDLANKS have now been unlocked in the bestiary.

What might initially appear to be a leafy hillock will very quickly prove to be something far more...mobile, if you get close enough. That clump of grass and red ferns will abruptly hoist itself up on six vine-like tendrils, crawling for its prey like a very large, mossy spider. While it's fully capable of swiping at its foes with its massive, leafy arms, the spindlank's favored method of dispatching its prey is simply to scuttle forth until it's positioned directly above you and drop down. If its weight does not crush you and choking on the clods of earth doesn't smother you, don't worry; the spindlank intends to eat you alive with a set of fleshy jaws set deep in its center, buried somewhere in its underbelly.

For despite their appearance, spindlanks are very much carnivorous. Their size can vary from anywhere between six and ten feet tall when their appendages unfurl entirely. They are, in essence, very large plants, and thus can be easily dealt with, if you can burn them.

Just try not to get overwhelmed.

All new arrivals will awake with knapsacks, their names stitched to the front. The contents of said knapsacks can all be found in your acceptance notices!

As a final note to those who participated in the Test Drive Meme, bear in mind that those threads, if all parties involved would like, can be game canon in the form of dream-like memories involving a place very much like this one, though the layout is considerably different.

Feeling a tad adrift? Make sure to check the Locations Page, which has details regarding the starting areas and a handy map for those who feel better with a bird's eye view!

[Truly, the Liberator has the right idea, the immense trees give her a better scope of the underbrush, and perhaps keep her safe from anything that may indeed be lurking in the dense vegetation that litters the ground. From where she is, still climbing the length of one of the towering pines, she may very well see a stark, white dot creeping along through the brush. It's a wolf, though the Liberator may not have ever seen anything of the sort to recognize as such.

And Ammy certainly sticks out, not camouflaged in any way with her pristine coat glistening white amongst the various hues of green, gold, and brown. She makes barely a sound as she stalks through the ticket, ears twitching and turning as she picks up the many sounds around her. Still, she doesn't seem to have picked up anything truly out of the ordinary - rustling leaves and snapping twigs are normal sounds for forest life, and though Ammy may pause to sniff at the ground or lift her head to listen, but continues on her way.

She also may, erm...t-take a moment to, uh. Mark a few spots here and there as well. Um. >_>

L-Look, she is still a wolf. Don't judge.]

[Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do, no matter what species you are.

She may not be familiar with wolves exactly, but she recognizes the general shape of a predator. The trees are better than climbing rocky outcrops and cliff faces in one immediately obvious regard; she can sit high up on a branch in relative safety, out of reach of four-legged animals.

As much as can be considered polite, she lets Ammy know where she is, echoing a mental image of her own view of the wolf, looking downwards.]

[That certainly catches the wolf's attention, and Ammy lifts her head with a surprised sound in her throat, head snapping up and ears out. She looks around a moment before her eyes start to scan the treetops, and she sees the image that was projected into her mind (what a very odd sensation). It take her a moment further, and a bit of squinting, before she recognizes there's a...uh--

Lizard? P...er...son....there and she begins to wag her tail, body language changing from prowling and skulking to a more friendly and loose relaxation of her muscles. That was a pretty neat trick, even if it did catch Ammy by surprise. She's never seen this person before either, and tilts her head at them curiously before barking up at them. Hopefully they're nothing like the people of the previous island, otherwise there may be some, ah...

Hostility. But Ammy has found that, after living in this world for so long, judging based on first impressions is never a good idea. She has made many a good friend after casting aside her biases.]

[The Liberator can't say she's ever seen an animal like Ammy very relaxed before, but body language really says it all. Similarly she doesn't appear to be scared or aggressive, but suitably wary, remaining up on her perch like some kind of lanky flightless owl.

Initially picturing Ammy chasing after a large mouse (or if not exactly a mouse, something similar), she follows up with the image of herself, spear in hand, doing the same, as she tries to gauge the wolf's response. She hasn't seen any kind of prey animals here yet, but the issue of territory is an immediate and obvious concern.]

[UM?? That sure is a picture in her head just now, and both are horribly incorrect. For one, Amaterasu hasn't hunted another animal in all her days - she eats meat, yes, but she has never once killed for her food. She usually forages on plants, edible roots, and fish that accidentally beach themselves. Heck, she also takes handouts and scraps from the other villagers.

Snorting, and lifting her head up as if affronted (which she absolutely is), the wolf projects herself amongst a flock of Bludrocs - feeding them gladly from one of her feedbags. The same with the herd of those bizarre turquoise deer-like creatures she spotted once or twice on the islands. She doesn't hunt, and never will. It's her way, and not very like a goddess of light and life to take that of another being to sustain herself.

As for chasing her with a spear? Well. The next image is a rather cartoonish thought of Ammy cutting down that tree you're nesting in, madam!!! >:C Ker-splat you go, dust clud and swirly eyes included.]
