February Event: Just One Mist-ake

FEBRUARY EVENT: JUST ONE MIST-AKE
Who: Everyone who ends up on the floating islands
What: February's event
When: February 15th to February 20th
Where: The floating islands above Ensō
Warnings: Mark as needed!
Sky High

Those curious floating landmasses far above Ensō have only grown more prominent in the coming days. Whether you've chosen to explore the islands purposefully or have ended up there via a mana pool malfunction, you'll doubtless discover their unique properties soon enough. You might even take advantage of their impressionable nature to mold them to your own desires, shaping pieces of the places you once knew, or maybe a place you wish you could be.

Either way, the repercussions to using the floating islands as your modeling clay will be evident by the time midnight rolls around, each night, and the islands impose a regular reset cycle to wipe away whatever changes have taken place, including that peculiar, almost volcanic texture that seems to affect the lands sculpted by your mentality. Just make sure you're not caught outside the depressions in the shape of mana pools centered on each island, lest you bear some unpleasant consequences for a day.

If you haven't signed up for a Reset Penalty and wish to, you can still do so here!
Check Your Wishlist

But of course, it's not all doom and gloom. It's quite the opposite, in fact. If there's something you've been wanting, simple or complex, something that has been making its way into the texture of your thoughts with a frequency that's almost noteworthy, the islands will attempt to see to it that this wish of yours, this yearning, is satisfied in some way or another. Some of the effects will be temporary. Some won't.

Regardless, at some point during the event, if your character visits the islands, the possibility is there.

If you're interested in a Wish Request, let us know here! Remember that filling out this form is required if you want to take advantage of the islands' "giving" nature.

Just because some people can cheat doesn't mean Chara doesn't depart for the islands the second murmurs of the pools malfunctioning hit their ears-- or rather, they don't, because Chara wasn't intending to come up here anyway. An attempt to reach the temple from the islets ends with them sitting at the very edge of one of the islands, frowning down at the ground far, far below them.

This kind of sucks? They're not remotely prepared for this adventure, lacking everything but the knives almost constantly secured to their person. From what they've inspected thus far, there's no food to be found- no animals, nothing. It's pretty, but useless.

And now that their curiosity has been sated, they can't get down. Woe. Have one ever heard such a miserable tale?

...Or seen such a miserable bird?

"Aren't you flying a little too high, for a pigeon?" Regardless of whether Chara is like, the last person he'd hope to find up here, they seem... different, than what he'd usually expect from them. Expression one of open curiosity, lax as they remain seated at the island's edge.

The out-of-place pigeon doesn't fly away immediately upon being spoken to, but it's a near thing. He turns the aborted take off into a kind of offended re-settling instead, with a coo of reproach. Birds are dumb and opinionated, so Taako really hasn't changed at all.

He inspects them inscrutably with one fierce orange eye, and however the bird math works out exactly, he seems to come to a decision pretty quick. Taako hops to the ground and struts over, closer than seems typical for a wild animal, making quiet clucking sounds the whole way. Congratulations! Shit's Disney af. Or would be if his beady eyes weren't trying to bore directly into their soul.

They're gonna be so mad when they realize. No wonder the bird's spirits seem improved by their presence.

He's kind of a pigeon right now so the eye-boring is completely, and utterly ignored. They seem somewhat taken aback by how... forward, this thing is, and with a no small amount of caution, Chara extends a hand. You down for a pet, bucko?

"Someone's pet, maybe?"

Rude, Chara! His communication options are currently limited, that was meant to be meaningful unsettling staring. But he does appreciate the cautious telegraphing of the incoming pet, and in return doesn't completely flatten into a pigeon puddle to escape it. Just mostly, with a kind of warble of tolerance and more staring.

Unfortunately, this was a trap. Taako manages to pull himself up and onto their wrist. This is basically bird surfing, wings held out for balance, surprisingly careful not to scratch through the fabric. Turns out he doesn't actually care about establishing his identity as not-actually-a-bird, this idiot just wants to be carried.

for some reason I swear I fucking responded to this

Well okay then, definitely someone's pet. They allow him to settle himself, carefully bringing their arm in towards their chest before giving his head a few gentle bumps with the fingers of their opposite hand, something vaguely resembling a pet, sure.

"If you're expecting me to take you home, I'm afraid the answer is no, tubby. Unlike yourself, I have no wings." And it's quite the ways down.
ohshitsweetflips: (!)

it's fine you're hiatusing and i'm not even here

Wow, are they this mean to all the wildlife they encounter? Who you calling tubby, bub? Taako is a flawless work of art, thanks, exactly as planned. Except for the being stuck in this form thing, that is technically one flaw, but he's pretty sure that one's out of his hands.

It's just...not quite jarring, per se, to see them this unguarded, but it definitely stands out, a weird counterpoint to their typical inscrutable schtick. A normal if somewhat melancholy kid, chatting to what they think is a lost pet. Regardless, Taako is incensed at being so bullied, careful pats notwithstanding, and fluffs up like some kind of freshly-armed bird grenade. He throws in some cooing for good measure, strident and unevenly pitched. That has to help, right? Being unusually opinionated? Just find someone telepathic or put a blanket over him or something.
achievementhunter: (It's a useless waste of time)

if you're not here and I'm not here who's flying the plane

[personal profile] achievementhunter 2018-04-05 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Reprehensibly cruel Chara Dreemurr, cause of many self-image issues for animals everywhere. Sorry Taako you're gonna spend the next seven years being self-conscious about how crooked your beak is.

"Opinionated little thing." Really, this bird is like, their spirit animal, possibly? Whodathunk. They continue smoothing down his feathers, falling into silence for a while with- realistically, nothing to say to a bird? It's a bird. It's not going to start talking back to them.

...And they're honestly just. Tired. At least up here, it's quiet.
