hey you, it's fall | open
Who: An open Karin (
maku) log!
What: Karin heads back to Enso after the flooding receeds to do what she does best: hit things with swords and ignore her feelings.
When: November 10th, early morning to early afternoon
Where: Enso -- the beach for the early morning, the jungle around noon and then the Temple Ruins in the afternoon
Warnings: none expected but I'll add if anything comes up!
[ It's early in the morning when Karin sets off for Enso -- the sun's only just starting to come up and there's only just barely enough light to see by. But it's only going to get hotter the higher up it gets and she needs as much time to train as possible. She's not been able to do it since the beach was so rudely flooded by the sea and all. But to her relief, when she finds her way to Enso it looks like the disaster has, for the moment, receded. The beach is littered with debris and the sand's shiny and wet but it's usable. She can train here. ]
beach
[ And train she does. Karin finds herself a clear stretch of beach, plops her knapsack down and gets going. She takes a little while to stretch and loosen herself up before she starts swishing those swords around. And once she's starts, it's a little mesmerising. It's almost like a dance of spinning, swishing, stabbing and swiping and it's so mechanical and easy looking that it's clear Karin knows what she's doing. She just keeps going and going until she's halfway up the beach and it's kind of a shock she hasn't gotten dizzy. She eventually comes to a stop when she's a good distance from her knapsack and takes a moment to catch her breath. Then she marches back and starts the whole thing up again, like it ain't no thing. She keeps on with this whole loop for a good while before she eventually seems to wear herself out.
When she's finally done (or at least the sun is too high for her to keep going), Karin plops herself down on the wet sand. She doesn't seem to mind the wet sand soaking her clothes (they'll wash out... probably) and takes a moment just to soak in the sheer everything this last month has been. Between the caverns and the flooding, it seems impossible to imagine that this kind of quiet is going to last.
It's better if it does. But the quiet never really lasts, does it? ]
jungle
[ With the sun hanging high in the sky, it shouldn't be a surprise that Karin retreats to the jungle. It doesn't look like it's shade she's on the hunt for, though. It looks like she's trying her best to find flowers or at least pretty looking blossoms. Kind of weird, considering Karin's never seemed much of a girl for flowers but given the frown on her face as she searches it looks like it's important to her that she finds some.
> Investigate? ]
the temple ruins
[ It's afternoon by the time Karin's finally satisfied with her little haul and she makes her way over to the place she'd had her eye on -- those ruins. She knows a temple when she sees one and Karin knows that when there's a temple, there's usually a god.
She heads inside, quiet and respectful and passes the Standing Stone. For the moment, anyway. To start with, she makes her way to the stone bowl and washes her hands and mouth. Just a rinse with the water that's in there, no soap, but she seems satisfied. Once she's done there, Karin makes her way back to the Standing Stone and carefully sets an offering on top. Two strips of the beef jerky she'd been given on her arrival and a handful of carefully picked flowers from the jungle. It's not the best offering she's ever been able to give but it's the best she can give right now. She hopes it's enough.
She bows and then claps her hands twice before lowering her head and standing there quietly for a while. She's hoping for... she doesn't know. Gods aren't usually known for being open and chatty -- the Storyteller is an exception in her experience -- but it'd be nice to know that damn rabbit wasn't the only thing here with them. Maybe there's someone, something else who could help.
Eventually Karin gives a sigh and steps back from the stone. Her expression's hard to read but maybe there's something on her face that could be homesickness. But after a moment, she simply bows again, picks up her knapsack and starts the trek back to the mana pool. Looks like she's done for today. ]

the temple ruins
Good afternoon. Is everything all right?
[The sigh had sounded tired, and while he might not be able to help--after all, Ignis still has a great deal of weariness lingering in his own mind--that doesn't mean he isn't going to offer.]

[ It's... this guy. There's been so much going on lately that she's not really been making much of an effort to keep up with her fellow islanders which... is probably unbecoming of her. Fu would have her head. It takes her a moment of rattling her brain to come up with his name but she gets it, Ignis, eventually -- when you beat up a bunch of monkeys, you're tight for life. Or something like that, anyway. ]
Yeah, yeah, it's fine. I was just going past those ruins and... it's a shrine, right? Or it used to be, anyway. Didn't feel right to just head home without leaving an offering.

I'm sure the Storyteller will be quite grateful for your thoughtfulness, provided that offering you left wasn't the exploding kind.
[Look, there isn't a lot he remembers positively from the monkey battle, but the exploding flower blast? Yeah, he remembers that quite fondly.]

Would've if I could figure out how to leave one, honestly. After what happened in those caverns I'd love to blow something up right in that furry jerk's face.
[ She's trying to make it sound like a joke but there's a simmering undercurrent of anger to her words. ]

Please... Please let the answer he gets be 'no.']
You're weren't infected, were you?

[ And then she pauses because she realizes she doesn't really have a word for whatever Mira is to her. Friend isn't exactly right and it's not like she has time for running around making friends in this place (or so she thinks). "Someone I know" is also a little too impersonal and she doesn't like the way it sounds. So she goes quiet for a moment, a pensive little silence before finally settling on: ]
One of the people I'm living with right now. [ there! that's technically the truth without Karin having to acknowledge she has Feelings. Nailed it. ] She got... you know. Messed up.

[He knows it from personal experience; he knows it from running into Mira. Of course, he has no idea he and Karin are talking about the same person. All Ignis can do is one again wonder how many people ended up feeling such pain.
How many died alone when he got to live?]
She's fortunate she has you to help her through the aftermath.

[ She sounds equal parts sullen and a little defensive, almost. As if admitting that she cares about someone on this island is something to warrant being defensive about. But that's the Karin Miyoshi way, unfortunately. ]
I just... it's kinda wrong, you know?
[ This comes out a little haltingly, like even Karin isn't quite sure what she's feeling or how to go about articulating it. ]
Where I'm from, people are supposed to actually stay dead if something kills them. And like-- don't get me wrong, I'm glad she didn't, I don't want Mira gone. I just... I dunno. It's weird.

[Her name comes out like a whisper, guilt crashing down on him even as he barely holds back the urge to clench his fists. Ignis knew logically that was how things had to have turned out for her, but to hear it confirmed in the voice of someone who obviously cares about her...
Ignis bows his head suddenly seeming much smaller somehow for the action.]
It is wrong. She didn't deserve that. I only wish I could have done more to ease her suffering down there.
