What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.
Where: The Ruins
Warnings: Um...same as the mingle log?

The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.

[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

"Not many people do." He steps back, hand going to the back of his neck out of reflex - and an absence of knowing what to do with his hands.

"I'm guessing this would be your first time down this, uh, road." That is to say, ending up in a whole different world than you were prior. She seems to be taking it well, all things considered, but that might just be that she's had some time to adjust.

"Some could." She muses mostly to herself as he pulls away. Someone must have planned this whole thing out, how else would there be bags with right names on them.

"Hm, can't say I've been on road like this before. But so far this seems like the second worst accommodations I've been to."

"Only the second?" That's something approaching amusement that quirks one eyebrow, though he certainly isn't smiling. That would require a bit more than he has in him, at the moment.

"Guess that makes you pretty lucky."

Immediately, his eyes flick shut. Oh, real nice of him. Calling her lucky when she's so completely and obviously out of her depth. Good job, Tim. Real tactful.

Well, it had mostly been a joke. The island and (seemingly) abandoned ruins were so awful that there were no proper words to describe the disgust but she'd still rather be here, or anywhere else for that matter, than in the orphanage. It's been already several years since her time there but there's some stinky nightmares that one couldn't shake off.

"Ha. Guess you're right," a smile spreads to her face. "I'm lucky now that you're here."

"Yeah?" It's uttered distractedly as Tim glowers at the flagstones, still mentally kicking himself over his complete fucking lack of social tact. Downward spirals of self-pity don't get anyone anywhere, he knows that, but the least he could do for a newbie like her is make sure she doesn't feel as lost as he did when he first showed up in a place like this.

Hence, he misses the undercurrents to what she's just said.

"What makes you say that?"

J takes note of the nervousness behind his words and the hints of tension in his body language. Although the reason behind them escapes from her.

Ah. So he's not the brightest bulb around? Well, guess she just have to be more forward.

"Well, darling. It's not for girl to be all alone in a scary place like this."

It's not like he doesn't understand what a flirtation is - he just doesn't understand why someone would lob it at him of all people. When it finally catches up to him, the nuances of what she's suggestion, Tim's eyebrows climb a little higher up his forehead, his hands mashing into his pockets.

"Not good for anyone to be alone," he says, warily. "We've got no idea what else could be in here."

"Exactly," she nods in agreement. Her eyes are locked him as she reads all the non-verbal cues his body's giving her. Oh dear, looks like he's not only dense but a shy too. He might not be a looker but guess there's still some charm to him.

"Which is why I'm lucky to meet someone like you out here in the dark instead of some kind of freak-"

If he were the type to laugh, he would have doubtless done so now. He merely snorts, shaking his head.

"Some kind of freak, huh?" he says, stretching the word out dryly. He'd apologize if he wasn't so certain that it'd go over so poorly. She's talking to the worst of them right now - the King Freak and the merry band of hyper-depressive misfits he calls his assorted baggage.

"Look, I'm not gonna just ditch you," he says tiredly, "but a little word of advice: you could do better. Way better."

Now that's a reaction even if a subtle one, J thinks. There is no ridicule, no agreement or avoidance in his tone but something that resonates to her choice of a word. Interesting, even if only mildly so. Things like that could be worth of noting.

"Aren't you just the sweetest," she winks her eye quickly to him. "You got a name, charmer?"

"Tim." She's not...quitting, is she? Fuck if he knows. This is a first for him in a lot of respects, and he's got absolutely no handle on how one should be handling something like that. Is this really her priority, or is this just her way of coping with all the shit being flung at her just now?

He's willing to bet on the latter.

"You?"
