Ruins Mingle Log!

What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.
Where: The Ruins
Warnings: Um...same as the mingle log?



The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.


[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!

[That's weird. Those red eyes remind her more of a ghost than a human. If she were a braver, she would touch him to see if that's the case. Thankfully, she's not. There's a pause in her voice, as she figures out how to express what she's doing. It seems obvious to her.]

I wanted to see.

[Comforting.]

To make sure you were okay.

[This makes sense right? Sure.]

[To make sure he was okay? Physically the Batter felt fine and had no reason to use any healing spell or item on himself yet. There was nothing wrong with his mental state either as it still read pure to him. Curious.]

I am fine.

[...well, unless...]

Unless you see something I do not.

[catpiper]

You can't see it. It's invisible.

[Ren watches him, as if trying to get a read on the situation herself. Not that she can. Sleeping is the only symptom and there's no way to discern whether someone will wake up outside of waiting. And wait she'll do.]

You don't feel very-

[everyone's tired now, by the looks of it. Even she's sleepy, but it's easier for her to figure out the difference between 'guess I'm dying' and 'regular' tired?]

-very tired. You're fine?

[Double very. The ultimate way of telling.]

[So not what he was thinking of. Ultimately it did not matter how someone saw him, but it would be curious indeed if it had happened so early.

Well whatever. Long story short, it seemed that this girl had concerns with people sleeping, for whatever reason. The Batter regards her evenly, his expression unchanging.]

I am fine. Sleeping is necessary.

[Even if it's not something he does normally.]

[It's hard for her to express what's wrong, torn between not wanting to cause those who might die tonight any worry and being stressed it could possibly happen to begin with. He says he's fine. Looks fine. 'Woke up' simply enough.

She just doesn't want to be alone again.]

You're fine.

[Then, she asks-]

Do you sleep for a long time?

[Anytime beyond a few hours is abnormal to her. At least this way she can keep an eye on people who sleep longer than what's normal for them. Not that she can do anything about them dying.]

[More questions based on his attempt to sleep, or sleep in general.]

No.

[If it's required, the Batter only slept the bare minimum. There were more productive things he could do with his time until he fell back into his coma.

But now it's his turn to ask a question.]

Why?

[catpiper]

[There's no reason for her to sidestep the question. She never had a reason to lie, preferring to run from her problems instead. Only there's really nowhere to run. She pauses.]

I want to see you wake up.

[Spooky apocalypse girl. A second passes, because he's technically awake now, and she adds-]

Tomorrow.

[unpurify]

[It is an answer but no more clear than anything else she has said thus far. She wishes to observe his awakening from sleep?]

Why?

[The Batter knows he's repeating himself and it's not something he does often. But this feels like something he has to get to the bottom of. Why was this girl so insistent in regards to the subject of sleep?]

[It seems clear to her, but it's apparent the answer isn't obvious to those around her. Look, conversations are hard okay.]

It's scary.

[He might die.]

I don't know if you'll wake up. A lot of people didn't.

[99.9% of people slept forever, as a matter of fact. That's the source of her understandable concern and the reason behind this impromptu sleep watching adventure.]

["A lot of people didn't.", implying that what the girl is speaking of happened in the past. Likely her own past. The Batter's own world no longer slept, only himself.

He made sure of it.]

Fine. But do not touch me.

[He draws the line there.]

I won't.

[Those are terms she can agree to. Easy. Fear keeps her in check anyway and touching anyone outside of Seto isn't something she's brave enough to try yet.

Look, she even puts her hands in her lap!! No touching.]

And I'm good at being quiet. I'll stay back here.

[Comforting. Enjoy nightstalker magoo. Try to get some rest batter. ]

[Yes, so very comforting.

But it's a good thing that the Batter isn't unsettled easily. His back was against the wall and he had his baseball bat. If a problem arises it could be solved fairly easily.

It will take him a good few minutes to actually fall asleep and he doesn't bother saying good-night. But at least Ren now has someone to watch for the next few hours!

He doesn't dream so don't expect much movement however. At least he's still breathing...?]

[That's good enough. True to her word, she stays in her section and keeps watch for a couple hours, nervously counting down until morning.

But she's only human and though she tries to keep her own eyes open, it gets to be difficult. He doesn't sleep long , is what he had said, and she can rest during the day. The problem is thoughts alone don't make this an easy task to accomplish and she employs a little trick to keep herself up. Namely, humming. It's quiet, but there. Sorry, batter.

She's doing her best, okay??? Don't put her on guard duty ever.]

[It's fine. Humming isn't enough to wake him. Throughout the night the Batter doesn't move or make a sound besides breathing. It seems that once he gets to sleep, he's one to stay asleep. Although that has more to do with something else that he didn't - and won't - tell Ren.

But true to his words, it's only a few hours so Ren won't be waiting long. The Batter eventually stirs and his hand reaches for the baseball bat that he knows is likely still there but better safe than sorry. It's still there. And so is Ren.

That's right.]

I am awake.

[catpiper]

[Ren's humming stops abruptly when he begins to shift and there's a small smile on her face when he begins to speak. So this guy isn't dead? That means the rest might wake up too. At the very least, it sparks a bit of hope in her.

The knowledge that people can wake up is a thought that will ease her worries from here on out. She's grateful he let her stand by and watch him.]

You did it.

[Like he accomplished something great by just waking up. Good job!!]

Did you have a nice dream?

[The Batter removes his cap to run a hand through his hair, although wisely he keeps the second set of eyes he possesses shut as always. But if Ren is perceptive enough she may notice the skin hidden under eyeblack looks raised, as if something is hidden under there.]

I don't dream.

[It's blunt but true. Prior to his arrival the Batter never once dreamed when he rested and it seems to have not changed. He has no reason to expect it too either.]

[catpiper]

[Unable to see the marks as more than spots of dirt, she doesn't comment. Though she wonders why he doesn't wipe his face off. At least that's a thought she'll keep to herself for now.]

You don't?

[It's statement she has a difficult time believing. Doesn't everyone dream? Maybe he just forgets.]

I'll try to share my dreams with you. We played a fun game once.

[BASEBALL to be more specific. While doesn't know how Seto and her managed to sync their dreams up that night, it had been fun. Maybe if she concentrates hard before sleeping, she can do it again. It's unlikely it'll work, but she'll give it the old college try.]

I don't.

[He's aware that it is 'normal' for others to dream and the inability to do so would be considered strange.

And Ren really doesn't want to be in the Batter's head. It's better for everyone involved. But her....ability to share her dreams is an intriguing one.]

How?

[The game thing doesn't interest him as much as the ability itself does, sadly.]

I don't know.

[Is the disappointing answer that follows. She can't even be sure her presence changed anything that night.]

Seto and I went to sleep and it happened on its own.

I see.

[Uncontrollable powers could be dangerous but there was nothing to suggest otherwise. It's merely something to keep in mind.]

Is that all?

[She confirmed that he could wake up and all.]

Yes.

[That's one person she doesn't have to worry about for the time being. The interaction went smoothly enough and she looks content with the outcome. His calm demeanor is a blessing honestly.

She stands up, ready to go into her own hidden corner to nap in. There's no offer to exchange names or a normal goodbye as she turns to leave.]

Keep waking up. Do your best.

[It's fine. The Batter only offered his name when asked and he wasn't one to say good-bye either. There wasn't much point.

So he just turns to his bag to make sure the items are in order again, with a simple word tossed over his shoulder.]

Sure.
