Ruins Mingle Log!
Who: Newt Geiszler
ohnehalfte and EVERYONE
What: So a bunch of people headed up towards the ruins, so they've got to all run into each other and start to congregate, right???
When: Evening of the mingle log and onwardish.
Where: The Ruins
Warnings: Um...same as the mingle log?

The beach curves up a gentle slope until it meets forest, some manner of building visible through the trees. Further exploration of this area will reveal a dilapidated building of sorts; the architecture is indiscernible to even the most skilled eye. Despite looking as if it has seen better days, there are areas that offer some form of shelter...and who knows what else. Just because it appears uninhabited doesn’t mean you won’t wind up pleasantly, or unpleasantly, surprised.
[ooc: Hey y'all! I thought this might be a good place to start getting larger groups of characters together to do some exploring, settling down, banding together and figuring out rations, etc. Feel free to throw up any threads of your own for specific things like exploration groups, a gathering in the entrance hall, whatever strikes your fancy or that you think your character would organize. Have a party!
Edit: Additionally, there is now an OOC Post for those that want to handwave their character signing up for ruin exploration]

Knowing what it isn't isn't the same as knowing what it was though. "Whatever it is, it's not going to be easy to figure out. And I, don't know." Expressing his thoughts a feelings into words weren't the prince's strong suit. "I feel like time's being wasted here."
Or something. Maybe it was his conversation with Nyx, or the fact that his home was going to be covered in the Starscourge while he was sitting on the beach, fishing. The knowledge of knowing he would have to die in order to save that world. . . .
"It's a lot." A long pause. "Anyway, I got seaweed too. Because you know, we don't have salt. Maybe it will help. You got a knife?"
no subject
"There are things we should be doing. Things that aren't us sitting here and figuring out if it's safe to eat this plant or not. It feels like an itch I cannot scratch no matter what I do because what I'm doing brings us no closer to getting back where we belong," Ignis fights to keep the tension out of his voice but is only partly successful. He's the one who they've always trusted to lay the plans that get them out of messes like this and yet he can do nothing to fix this particular mess.
"That is an understatement, but right now all we can do is take things one step at a time. We need to explore this place and learn what we can about it. It's the only way we will get back home."
Serious as their topic of discussion is, a small smile lifts the corner of Ignis' mouth, "Asking me if I have a knife. Who do you think I am?" He takes a moment to feel around for where he left the knife Prompto gave him and then holds it out to Noctis, "Here, and all of our taste buds thank you for grabbing that seaweed."

He squatted down, placing the fish on the log, and began to clean them. "There's the other people that are hear too. They, they don't seem to be. . . " This was going to sound weird and crazy. ". . . .they don't seem to be from anywhere like home. I saw a guy LEVITATE our raft and zoom us across the water. He used magic."

As much as Ignis tries to hide his reactions to things, he can't help but jerk slightly in surprise when Noctis gets to the bit about levitating the raft. Why would this place allow that kind of magic, but cut him off from his own? His mind chooses then to remind him he'd thought about trying to summon his weapons again while on the raft, so he lifts his hand once more, reaching toward the armory for his daggers. He doesn't expect it to work. Why would it work now when it didn't before? As a result, when his daggers do come to hand, he almost drops them.
"By the Six!" Ignis doesn't even try to hide his shock. Instead, he dismisses his weapons, only to summon them back an instant later, an attempt to assure himself it's not just a fluke. Once more, he dismisses them and then throws his hand out in a gesture that Noctis will recognize as one he often uses when he's activating Regroup. There's no movement. Of course, there isn't. Noctis is right next to him, but what there is comes in the form of gentle regenerative energy washing over them both for a short time.
Ignis draws his hand back, looking down at it almost as if he might be able to see why he suddenly can use skills he couldn't not that long ago. In a rare moment of frustrated vulnerability, he whispers, "I don't understand how magic works here at all. What's going on?"
no subject
"You okay?" he asked, before going into Ignis's comment about how magic works.

A small smile crosses his face as he raises his head, "I apologize for startling you, but it is a good reason to be startled all things considered."

He finished the fish. "I have condensed milk too by the way. It's like canned, so I'm sure it'll last us awhile as long as it's sealed. I don't know what you want to do with it."
no subject
"Condensed milk is quite often used in desserts. It's a shame we don't have most of the other things we'd need to make one. Still, it will be useful in adding a touch of sweetness to what we can make, not to mention it can be used in marinades, puddings, curries..." Ignis trails off with a small laugh and a shrug, realizing he's getting a little ahead of himself considering they don't most of the things needed to make any of that either. "You get the idea. I can't say I'm unhappy to have it."
no subject
After all he wasn't sure how long he'd have left with him, or anyone.
no subject
He thinks about the question he's been ask for a moment before coming up with a task that actually will prove quite helpful to them all, "Pots don't make very good vessels to eat out of. Pass me the fish and the seaweed, then can you see if you can find anything that might serve us as bowls or plates? Discarded coconut shells and flat rocks are the first things that come to mind, but considering this is a ruins, who knows what you may end up stumbling across. Just don't wander too far. If you can't find anything, we can make due for tonight. It's already been a long enough day."
Ignis is quite aware Noctis can take care of himself, but he can't help but want to keep him nearby anyway. So far, he's done an admirable job of keeping the anxiety his loss of vision has caused at bay, but he's getting tired and he can feel it gaining ground around around the edges of his mind. Best not to give it more things to feed off if possible, and keeping Noctis nearby certainly removes one large worry from the pile.
