Apparently he'd been given some marijuana plants - but he didn't really seem to want them. I was helping him identify the plants he'd ended up with, so he told me to go ahead and take as many of those as I wanted.

I took a few, but left the rest... I assume there was a reason he was given those to begin with, but I guess I can't really know if he actually tended to them.
